I have heard of our favourite ethnic minority stealing Hedges and gates, but paving slabs seems to be a new one ??

Look like stone pavers rather than your usual high street paving stones.

They’re worth money - a decent amount depending on the stone involved. We lost a 40 sqm of York stone from one our our sets of steps a few years ago.

Taking steps.
Not bad, not bad.

I suppose they're getting a bit desperate as the market for dodgy driveways, tree surgery, gutter clearance and roofing work etc. has perhaps tailed off somewhat since last march. (Yes, I know there are legitimate traders in those areas of work.)

Looking at the pictures shows the slabs they left were not fancy or special, I cant believe there would have been two types of pavers on one pavement.

This looks like they have stolen old concrete paving slabs and left the cracked or broken ones

It’s actually pretty common, stone slabs and paving sets

The other things that “vanish” during the night are drain covers and grates

No need to worry, those honest hardworking family men will be back with a load of tarmac left over from another job...

Someone in West Sussex is reading that news story as they admire their new patio which that lovely man installed for such a bargain (cash) price

My grandparents had their front paving nicked about 20 years ago.

Really upset my grandmother. She "did the step" every week even though she was almost 80 at the time.
The house was my grandfathers parents house before they lived there.

It was only about a dozen slabs but they were mint and c.1890, total pr*cks.

The old adage with that lot, if it’s not bolted down they’ll take it still rings true.

50mm council slabs are worth enough to be worth lifting if you're getting them free.

Or maybe someone needed a new parking spot for their van.

Some of my pals will offer the Council a good price to tarmac over that area. wink

Looking on Street View, it looks like many are york stone stabs, so they just left the concrete repairs and cracked ones (I thought the cracked ones would be good for crazy paving!):

I had about 150 yards of stone path stolen from one of my rentals: from the rear garden!

I’ve even had the stone coping a pinched from my stone gate posts. My neighbour lost some of his wall the same night. We’re up a private road too: not some where you pass.

And a few years back a neighbour was having his house extensively converted: someone had the stone roof off that whilst they were on holidays part through.

This is the only drawback of living in Yorkshire: beautiful stone 🙂

Paving slabs have been nicked for years up here in Yorkshire. Even the Council are not averse to removing Yorkstone slabs and replacing with tarmac when it suits them to save cost of repair. About 20 years ago I arrived at work one morning to find our back yard had been stripped of paving slabs in the night. Similarly all the lead off our office roof was nicked in the middle of the night. Needless to say the slabs were replaced with concrete and the lead with artificial lead.

And probably advise them not to leave them lying around in future.

Well there's Bradford.
And Leeds.
And Castleford, Donny, Huddersfield, Rotherham, Hull, South Yorkshire basically.
