They should never be mandated outside a pandemic and the majority will ignore that requirement if they tried it but if someone wants to wear one it's their choice, leave them alone. Would be nice on rush-hour public transport as there are some pretty disgusting individuals out there but it's unworkable due to health exemptions.

I've never had a problem with Masks, I'm not bothered either way so if I'm required to put one on for a bit longer until all this is as done and dusted (as its practically going to be) I will.

Its made it easier to spot life's difficult or deliberately awkward people though so as an early warning of an incoming bellend its been quite useful.

Some odd people here seemingly virtuously stating they have never wore one - odd.

I’ll stop when I’m told to stop for sure, but I’ve understood the reasons and the benefits of wearing one. Older people and immunocompromised should consider continuing to wear them in busy areas, but completely optional.
They see themselves as heroes who are sticking it to the government, whereas they are more like Boris boasting about shaking hands with all and sundry before he was carted off to hospital.

I thought we were told that masks are supposedly about protecting others rather than yourself? What benefit would wearing one have for them if what the Gov have said is true?

Agree with the completely optional point though for any recommendations going forward.

I only wear a snood for supermarket shopping/buying fags in corner shop. I haven't actually purchased a proper mask through all of this. Snood collection will be dumped on 21st June if all goes to plan...

From today's news suggesting that the rate of the drop in infections is slowing down it looks like more masks are being left at home.

I wear one where required at the moment. Don’t see the harm in doing so personally. I wouldn’t wear one unless mandated though.

The only change I hope comes of this is a bit more personal responsibility with people when it comes to colds and the like. I would like to see people wear masks inside when they have colds to avoid spreading them like we see in the Far East. It has been refreshing to go over a year without any cold symptoms. I wouldn’t however suggest for one minute that it should be mandated though!

No idea how true some of the claims are on this video, but the imagery is interesting.

Doubtful really. Happy to comply with the bare minimum guidelines, but once it stops becoming "mandatory" it'll be slung in the bin. I'm sick of not being able to be heard without raising my voice at times and not being able to gauge peoples expressions. I'm oot.

Its noticeably worse without anything.

But short of wearing a plexiglass bubble you are going to be emitting something. At least if others are also wearing a good mask they have less chance of breathing in your vapours. Even more so if they are further away from you than normal.

So, masks and space probably help slow the spread.

On 21st June I’m going to gather up as many masks as I can, build a huge funeral pyre in my back garden, then strip naked, smother my body in the blood of a freshly slaughtered goat and dance naked round the burning flames while screaming, chanting and giving praise to whichever Pagan God happens to be awake at the time

I've had to wear masks for probably 30 plus years, in ATEX rated dust areas I wear a disposable filter in open flap out mask to prevent dust inhalation, not much good in the current situation as there is no filtration of exhalation.
In areas with Nitric or Hydrochloric acid I wear a complete face mask with gas filters, I am really anal about these masks, filters are disposed of in the correct receptacle after one use, mask seals and inner and outer surfaces rigorously cleaned as I worked in a place barrelling HCL, one guy was issued a positive air pressure hood which he fitted dust filters to, it sucked up the acidic gas and blew it into his face.
22 years old, 15% vision and @ 20% lung capacity, you see something like that it makes you careful.
We also run ammonia cooled glycol compressor/chillers. For those I use a positive pressure hood, again use the filters once and check the batteries weekly.
The masks I have been given by work during this are better than average, triple ply and an unlimited supply, they are also laughably ineffective against a virus.
Step outside on a cold night and watch the moisture droplets coming straight through your mask, each of those droplets is @ 1000 times bigger than the virus, also If you are infected then each of those water droplets is teeming with viruses.
Masks are only effective in making people feel protected, which leads to less social distancing.
Mind games from ineffective leaders.

Maybe on crowded public transport in the winter. It would be easy enough for shops to insist on social distancing in queues etc. Might make shopping more pleasant all round.

Of course, until the pandemic if you attempted to wear a face covering in public you'd soon get told to remove it for CCTV reasons, I wonder how soon that will return - I can't see the staff in the local National Westminster being happy with punter walking in dressed like Dick Turpin or the corner shop once they've been done over by the local youths a couple of times - perhaps there will be a 'remove masks as you walk through the door so the camera can see you' protocol.

hehe A perfectly sane and measured response

Anyone wearing a mask because the plonkers in government say so, and virtuously thinking it does anything at all are the ones who need to take a look at themselves.

The OP's question isnt relevant as at no point has it been indicated that masks will no longer be required after 21st June. I think we can safely assume they will still be mandated. Probably permanently. Certainly there are agitators in SAGE etc pushing hard for this to be so.

Agree with both of the above. Personally, I wear one as little as possible and would happily get rid today and not panic about it - even in crowded areas. Just last weekend though I did briefly chat with a woman who said she'd continue to wear them even if not required... as she'd "bought quite a lot so may as well carry on using them." A bit like using crutches after your broken leg as healed because, well, you've got them already, so why waste them?
