Just have a national vote. 2 possible answers.
Do you want to continue with potential lockdowns, restrictions, masks
Yes
No
If no everything is dropped but also governments are not held responsible for any death increases.
I suspect the above reason is why they keep going with it now.
I wouldn't bank on there being a No outcome...Do you want to continue with potential lockdowns, restrictions, masks
Yes
No

...will the government just wake up one day and tell us we need to live with it after spending a lot of money chasing covid
...will there be endless variants, lockdowns and boosters forever going forward?
...will furlough be extended again and, if so, for how long and what will it cost?
...will the emergency legislation be extended?
I could go on. I suspect the people running the country don't know. They've put themselves in an impossible position.
I would like to return to proper normal but I think we will be living with this for many years.

My experience of the elderly this weekend is that lockdown will remain because of the youngsters mixing and not getting vaccinated. Looks like the propaganda is working
Where are all the old people dying because the youngsters have got it? Just more bks not backed up by any actual data...sevensfun said:

Shouldn’t matter if we have protected the elderly grumbledoak said:

Whilst I can't seeva referendum ever happening, I do wonder how this will all pan out.

The next 3 to 9 months could be very depressing. I personally think we will continue in our current state of rules/legislation/guidelines with the odd stricter local lockdown once we hit Autumn. I also think furlough will continue in some form and emergency legislation will be extended again. We've a holiday next summer but I can't see that being on unless something changes.
I also see society becoming very divided. My local Facebook group is full of people terrified that they've seen people not wearing masks (both indoor abd outdoor locations). There needs to be some serious investment in both mental health and convincing people they can live with it...if that's the plan.

What is your career / industry. I’m not doubting your assertion, but I know a heck of a lot of people in lots of walks of life and none of them have been unable to do anything connected to their career for 15 months. Worst affected is my mate who has an exhibition stand building factory, but even he has been doing odds and ends since back end of 2020.
Again, I’m not doubting you, just trying it work out what industry it may be that is so badly hit by this that despite there being quite limited restrictions for quite a lot of the last 15 months, you’re on,y now able to get going again.
I, too, am very glad you’re getting going again, it must have been a particularly stty 15 months.
I remember you being a staunch advocate for anything lockdown related, hiding behind sofas and basically having and "I'm alright Jack" attitude.....so basically, yeah, insert bannable offensive phrase here........Again, I’m not doubting you, just trying it work out what industry it may be that is so badly hit by this that despite there being quite limited restrictions for quite a lot of the last 15 months, you’re on,y now able to get going again.

I did my first freelance job today after the government cruelly destroyed my career March 2020.
It was great. Within minutes masks were ripped off, hands shaken and hugs had. We worked hard, had little sleep and drove 100s of miles to get there.
I don't fking care if I now die of Covid despite my 2, now considered by government as useless, injections.
For a weekend I felt like I was living again.
Nice one mate, genuinely made me feel things are moving in the right direction. It was great. Within minutes masks were ripped off, hands shaken and hugs had. We worked hard, had little sleep and drove 100s of miles to get there.

I don't think he knows what he is saying to be honest. Trump was a misogynistic prat but having someone who is clearly senile is more dangerous IMO, because wherever US government policy comes from, it isn't him.https://rumble.com/vihdsj-did-biden-just-say-covid...

Indeed; surely the government can sense the "we've done everything asked of us, now please give us something in return" mood? After all, if they wish to encourage vaccinations there needs to be some reward for compliance. Otherwise many of the under 30's might say: "Sod it. Why get the vaccine if you can't go on a foreign holiday or even attend a decent wedding party?"
That's where I am. Why take a hastily authorised drug for a virus that barely affects my age group, which I've already had(and barely suffered) for no gain. Plus I don't like needles.
Also here is a list of TYFC posts on the bet about lockdowns. This is the picture where he outlines his bet.
See you in 30 days.

I’m currently on the Costa Del Sol and it feels like a totally different universe to the one I have experienced back in the U.K. of late. The land of control and paranoia.
Yeah people have masks, but they are worn half - heartedly.. I was down at the beach this morning and it was busy! I’ve actually shaken hands with a few people too - first time in ages!
I was out here August, October and December last year.luckily!
Yeah for sure it’s a lot quieter than what you would expect for June. But fundamentally I don’t feel the ever pressing fear that the IK government seems obsessed with forcing down peoples throats.
My observation is the Spanish appear equally non- believing now of their own rules set upon them

6 of us went to El Oceano at Mijas for lunch today. We arrived at 1 and had a few pre lunch drinks. By the time we went to our table around 2 the restaurant was c.60% full. An hour later there were just a couple of tables free. No social distancing and only staff wearing masks.
Great location and service, fabulous Sunday lunch with plenty of good wine, live music and a great atmosphere. Felt completely normal other than the masks on the staff.
El Oceano clientele is primarily expat, but the San Pedro restaurants (which are mostly locals) that I’ve been to over the last few weeks have also really started to pick up.
Hoping we see something of a tourist season this summer though... there are loads of bars and restaurants up for sale in the areas heavily reliant on seasonal trade. My neighbour owns a restaurant in Puerto Banus, and he’s recently reopened after closing back in October. He says trade is starting to pick up, but he’s nowhere near making money yet.

The rich and powerful care not one jot about the little people, never have done, never will. All they care about is whatever keeps them rich and powerful.
It was ever thus, and always will be.
The only way this will end is if more and more people choose not to comply.

People think that 1945 to 2020 was ‘normal’ , when it really wasn’t. Most of the British public have been serfs in some fashion for a thousand years. It’s pretty obvious that ‘they’ think we have gotten too spoilt, time for a reset.
Yeah, dead obvious, that'll be it. bern said:

Yeah, dead obvious, that'll be it. So many people don't work due to so many benefits for kids or what amount to really minor disabilities. Folk at my work on 16 hrs a week with brand new cars holidays to florida with the 3 kids etc. All subsidised. Everyone has take outs 2,3,4,5 times a week. 2-3 costas a day. The value of money has gone.
