I don't think I've seen a topic on this yet and it kicks off Friday. I spent my teenage years growing up near St Ives, so the idea of all these world leaders holding a big summit there I find slightly amusing. I have a couple of friends down there saying the county is pretty busy with it all. I think the BBC reported 5,000 additional police officers being brought in with many staying on a cruise ship in Falmouth Harbour.

I'd like Biden and Boris to make a "proper job" on some progress for UK/US travel relaxation, but it seems likely now that won't happen any time soon.

I wonder if there will be a leader group photo with them eating a Cornish Pasty on the beach? biggrin ('ansome)

There’s been some very cool spots of the American Helis flying around down here. Not much else exciting so far!

the whole place is locked down. Sounds like its over the top for a bunch of ordinary people that have been elected by other ordinary people. Friend had a table booked yesterday at the beach restaurant opposite the Tate in St Ives, cancelled because of G7 at the weekend. Ordinary people trying to make some £££after the last 12 months must be tearing their hair out .

Yep, that's what a friend down there said. Shame if you're the one having your dinner cancelled though. ID required to get to their own homes I heard too. But big picture it's only a few days and hopefully with many folks staying in the UK for their summer holidays then the local tourist trade will bounce back.

Yeah, 12 hour shifts covering a static point, away from home for a week or so, with crap food and crap accommodation. Sounds an absolute blast.

I’ve worked Labour and Conservative party conferences on the security operation and also done “normal” policing while they’re on. They are nothing other than a massive ball ache.

I’m not on the op for G7, but there’s a leave embargo while it’s on (and in the run up). As above, staff not deployed have shifts deviated/rest days cancelled to cover abstracted/seconded officers. There’s also a leave embargo for a few other things this year, some sort of climate thing happening, the European football, yada yada yada.

This is what I find annoying about the 'elite' group and the world they are making everyone live in.

It's been the same forever really. The elites arrive, do what they want and everyone else has to stay away or be disrupted. Places get locked down, normal people can't do normal things anymore. All because a group of pompous, self serving idiots show up in town with their armed muscle.

It's different now though because not only do the peasants have to bow and make way, they are doing things that the peasants are banned from doing.

Want to go on holiday abroad? No way fella. Covid. Innit.

Want to meet up with a group of people? No way fella. Covid. Innit.

Want to live a life that wouldn't be considered eco friendly? No way fella. Global warming. Innit.

Yet the elites and their chums carry on regardless doing all of the above.

These absolute c u next Tuesday's turn up from en mass all over the world, mingle with each other, disrupt everyone else's lives and decide how everyone else is going to live. Even if the elite get notification of potential covid infection, they will make up some rule or scheme that means they can carry on with their lives.

One other thing is the cost. It must cost a hell of a lot to move the elite and their staff around. Yet it doesn't matter because they aren't paying for it. The peasants pay for it and they pretty much decide how they will spend the money taken from the peasants.

Classic do as I say. There is even a picture of our useless prime minister emerging from a plane in Cornwall. A plane? Could you get anything more obnoxious? How dare he lecture us about being green and then fly there. Same to all of them. Pompous, self serving, out of touch with reality tossers who shouldn't be in a place of power.

Really, really annoys me. I do hope that one day, the human race will advance enough to understand that we don't need a bunch of overpriveliged a-holes preaching to us about how to live our lives and controlling us.

Build back better. Go away you slimy, overweight, under the thumb moron.

Absolute hypocrites. The lot of them.

Doesn't matter. You driving your fossil fuel powered car and using a gas boiler in your home is the issue.

(You may not do either. Just an example hehe )

It's been interesting and apparently Joe Biden has now landed here.

We have had flyovers over our house most evenings now for months, we are very close to Carbis Bay up on the hills above and when the three osprey heli/planes flew over our house on Monday night they seemed close enough to touch, then the two presidential sikorskis went over.

It seems they were having a bit of a practice fly about and we watched them land on St Michaels Mount in the bay.

Delivering in and around St Ives and Carbis Bay has been interesting and we are now not going anywhere near it until its all over, it's going to be gridlock worse than it usually is!

It's a beautiful part of the country and I'm glad they are here, the nice new tarmac on the main roads would never have been done if it were not for the G7!

All the posts so far: miserable

Jeeze, lighten up - it’s not that bad!

World leaders turn up to provincial Cornwall and everyone thinks it’s awful.

Conversely, we don’t do it and people say we’re a shadow of our former glory and no one cares about our insignificant island.

You can’t win!

I think it’s ace

I really wonder what the likes of Biden and his entourage think of Cornwall, especially travelling on our roads. Anyone who’s ever encountered the A30 between Camborne and Hayle in the summer will get me hehe

I imagine it’s a very stark contrast from Washington DC!

The amount of police around now is crazy, been keeping my eyes a bit more peeled than normal!

Airforce 1 landed at Mildenhall at 8pm so he's in the country, not sure if in Cornwall though yet.

Proud generations of nouveau-Cornish live in London most of the time anyway, so they'll barely notice the inconvenience.

I’m hearing the “cruise ship” in the bay is far from the Queen Elizabeth

It’s an old Baltic ferry that’s seen far better days .. rooms with no windows .. no mattresses on the beds .. two sharing a single room

No plug U.K. plug sockets .. D&C have had to go out and buy 100’s of plug adapters apparently

Lots of cops also billeted on campsites and in caravans
