At least in the (very) old days kings and nobility led armies into battle, and got slaughtered along with everyone else if it all went wrong. So they had some skin in the game. The scum who call themselves "leaders" now have none whatsoever - however much they fk up or take the piss they never face any consequences.

Yeah, 12 hour shifts covering a static point, away from home for a week or so, with crap food and crap accommodation. Sounds an absolute blast.

I’ve worked Labour and Conservative party conferences on the security operation and also done “normal” policing while they’re on. They are nothing other than a massive ball ache.

I’m not on the op for G7, but there’s a leave embargo while it’s on (and in the run up). As above, staff not deployed have shifts deviated/rest days cancelled to cover abstracted/seconded officers. There’s also a leave embargo for a few other things this year, some sort of climate thing happening, the European football, yada yada yada.
I’m hearing the “cruise ship” in the bay is far from the Queen Elizabeth

It’s an old Baltic ferry that’s seen far better days .. rooms with no windows .. no mattresses on the beds .. two sharing a single room

No plug U.K. plug sockets .. D&C have had to go out and buy 100’s of plug adapters apparently

Lots of cops also billeted on campsites and in caravans
A number of my old lot are billeted on the liner/ferry - all quite happy with the accomodation plus all issued with powerbanks for mobile phone charging etc

I think Biden is meeting Boris tomorrow but I’m not sure if it’s in St Ives or not. Biden is apparently flying to Newquay airport onboard AirForce One. Then I’m betting a helicopter to St Ives and a short drive. So he’ll miss the A30 traffic smile. Apart from a possible clotted cream tea and maybe a Cornish Pasty I doubt he’ll get any feel for the place.
Oh and there’s a Trago Mills in Falmouth btw, but I hear they’ve sold out of travel adapters.

I'll bet it's a right pain up the arse trying to function normally there right now, but it would still give me a proper thrill to see it all.

It's not as if it's going to happen again any time in the near future.

There'll no doubt be some lost business while it's on but it'll also plant plenty of touristic seeds when foreign travel opens up again.

I've got to head north from Land's End airport on Saturday night. It'll be interesting to see how buggered everything is.

Hopefully rent-a-mob will get stuck on the A30, lose the will to live, then bugger off home.

Nice to see they've brought a st load of coronavirus with them as well. My daughter is at the Penryn Campus of Exeter Uni and they have turned loads of accommodation over to press/support staff etc. There had been no cases on campus for a few months, the hoards arrive and now cases are rampant. Having avoided catching it back in the Autumn, her and her friends (at least 7 close contacts and more than 30 she knows of) have tested positive and are having to self isolate. She's not a happy bunny as this is her last week and she had a few parties planned.

I thought they usually got ransomed. It was how soldiers made money in the olden days.

This is a bit worrying.

What variant?

Christ!

I have my first freelance job since Covid started and it's in bloody St Ives this weekend.

Boss has said I have to drive and sort parking.

He's got us a hotel.......but it's in bloody New Quay.

Maybe I'll stop in Gwithian and paddleboard in.

No it's not laugh, a load of young people with some minor illness for their age group. Everyone else has been jabbed (a separate issue which is OT).

It will be fine, don't worry.

This is what I find annoying about the 'elite' group and the world they are making everyone live in.
Come on PH, what is it, are they 'elite' people or are they just "ordinary" people ? smile

Or is it just another webpage on the internet where some jump to the chance to voice "outrage" at something?

Like i said on the 'will lock down end on the 21st thread'....in two weeks cases and new variants will be up as a reult of the G7 lot turning up/not isolating and lockdown here will be extended with the blame put on the rest of us.

I wonder what the carbon footprint of this little get together will be?
Doesn't matter. You driving your fossil fuel powered car and using a gas boiler in your home is the issue.

(You may not do either. Just an example hehe )
Yes I do have a fossil fuelled car and a gas boiler but the point is , I’m not telling the world not to use theirs while I turn mine up to 11.
What’s wrong with video conferencing for those things especially with Covid? At least people might think they are serious rather than taking the p1ss with their private jets etc

I'm guessing they checked that before they tried to land! biggrin

But it is about 2.8km runway, so plenty of room
