Hi everyone.

Gutted to see that a topic I’d started on this has been removed. Perhaps I hadn’t had a recent / new post in quite some time. That’s life I guess!

However just recently after being happy for 4/5 months with the repairs and upgrades I’d made to the car, I’ve had a few mishaps.

1. I’ve reversed into a large concrete pole and needed a couple of hundred pounds worth of some repair work done.

2. I also scuffed the alloys on one wheel badly

3. I also needed hubs and brake calipers replaced so had that done. I had these repainted black to match the rest and got the alloy refurbished also.

Now over the weekend I have now discovered the black plastic / vinyl at the top of the one of the doors that meets the glass on the window has come away and is flapping about.

Has anyone any advice on how to fix / repair this?

I will also take some pictures and post shortly.

Many thanks - I know there will be some genius and experienced fixers in here who can direct / guide me correctly. It feels like a superglue job but don’t want to jump in with two feet and get ahead of myself!

Also as I peel it back a touch to see what’s happening underneath I see this further along the door - it looks strange to me but perhaps it’s just a glue / sealant that has come away…

I had the same problem on my E91, probably due to an incompetent body shop. I think the new trim was over £100 from BMW. I used superglue, worked a treat.

Actually there was no repair work done to this door or anywhere near this area at all so I think it’s just wear and tear. I still need some advice about how to get the part and then go ahead and get it done myself. Any more thoughts welcome…

Can I just go into my local BMW dealership and ask them to order me this part?

I’m happy to just let them put it on too and get the job done quickly.

Yes, the easiest way to do it.
Be warned these trims are expensive.

When looking at a prospective E93 with tarnished trims, I asked the dealer if they would replace them. They stopped counting when the parts cost had exceeded £1,500, so I walked away from that one.

if you push the trim down, and then forward it just clip back on. Same happened on my E90, they seem to slowly work their way rearward over time. Shouldn't need replacing!

Ok so priced this at the dealership - £184! Yes this is just for the part not any fitting.

Does anyone know or know how to find out what the part model no. for this would be?

I’d like to see if I could source it myself but can’t quite work it out. Have spent a few hours and got nowhere…any suggestions from some of you wise others?

The masking tape in the sun needs a lot of fixing. I need to move towards the more permanent solution.

This is brilliant thanks.

Now excuse me for appearing slightly stupid but which part would you say is the one I actually need? Bottom trim of rear right passenger’s window…

I know you know but I look at the diagram and get myself confused…

Is it this you're looking to replace:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264900494649?fits=Car+M...

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=VU32...

Part number 1

Or are your parts gloss rather than matte?

If gloss; then it looks like it needs to be this (on the above link):

Part number 02 Window well strip, outer, door, rear rgt GLANZSCHWARZ 1 51357220192 $51.42

Which is this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184878728518?fits=Car+M...

At those prices; I'd look to fix it first as has already been suggested above; or glue it down (araldite etc)

I think I mentioned on your last thread, some of these trims are simply stuck down with double sided tape from the factory.

I would be looking to try and gently ease it off to take a look.

It may just be a case of scraping of the old tape, cleaning everything up with IPA or White Spirit and putting it back on with more tape?

The shadowline black trim just slides into the groove in the rubber weatherstrip below. They are two pieces and no glue is involved.

Open the door, slide out the remainder of the trim backwards. Leave the weatherstrip in place. Get some soapy water and lubricate the weatherstrip. Carefully start putting the strip back into the groove starting at the back of the door.

I use BMW branded stuff. It’s not expensive from BMW usually - I paid £11 for the last bottle I bought. 50:50 mixture with deionised water.
