One Britain?

Does that include all the devolved nations? I'm assuming this has been run past the separate communities of Northern Ireland? Isn't Wales a Principality? Scotland is a country, so surely it should be One Britain (United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland), 2 countries, one Principality and a Province/Country/Region/Occupied lands One Nation?
It's on the 25th? For many Scottish kids, last day of school is 24th June.

They want all schools to stop at 10am on Friday to sing their song.. Something they've been pushing since at least 2019, but suddenly this year it gets approval and endorsement from the government.

Although they've done so little research about "One Britain, One Nation" that they haven't noticed many of the Scottish schools have closed for the summer by then, so won't be part of it.
I think the intentions are entirely good and entirely laudable.

Sadly when the Government go near anything like this I fear it risks turning into a massive flag waving Williamson festival.

ETA - will there be any natty uniforms to go with the OBON Day rallies?
Ignoring the silly uniform comments.

All this means is children would be less like you. No bad thing.

Who we invading?

Afghanistan draw-down underway, units left Germany, French (and British) wanting out of Mali.

I think Nigeria.

Don’t you have more in common with the people behind OBON politically than the “ultras”?

No idea what this is for, or the point behind it, with the added bonus that there are unpleasant shades of nationalism in it.

Historically, the rise of nationalism hasn’t been a good thing, from what I recall of school…

Have you seen Scotland lately? If you want to see nationalism, racism and bigotry writ large, I'd start there

Christ on a bike, what next?

Tractor production numbers? Bozza playing golf and scoring a hole in one with every shot? Cultural re-education centres?

Do we even need this type of forced nationalism thrust onto the nations children?
Re-education was a Labour policy. Disliking your country might have been optional.

It's something else for lefties to get angry about, when they're not taking the knee.

And this is the only reason it's happening. We are in a new paradigm of government by trolling, government on a constant campaign footing, which helps disguise their incompetence. Trollocracy. There is no "culture war", it's just a tactic to keep the real news of this government's absolutely shambolic and indeed destructive and heartless record off the front pages.

I plan to give it a thorough ignoring, and recommend everyone else does to. It's absolute dog rot.

No doubt this makes me a leftie snowflake whose tears should be drunk from an enamel army mug with a picture of the Queen on it, but I speak as, genuinely, a former Convservate party member who once even voted UKIP (in the 2000 EU elections) as a protest against the Blair government and the then apparent plan to take us into the single currency.

Says the man that replies to a thread about a future date with the illegal actions of Blair & Campbell from the early 2000's. You really are the gift that keeps on giving!

I agree with this sentiment - I have never been comfortable with jingoistic flag waving but that doesn’t mean that I am not (or was anyway) proud of the United Kingdom - not just Britain!

Under normal circumstances I rather like Joanna Lumley!
Anyway, I can't really see today's yoof endorsing this latest crap.

Edit: this snippet from the website: '....develop a strong and shared sense of belonging in order to showcase their pride, passion and love for our great nation.' Hmmmmmmmmmm.... pride passion & love? Count me out as long as the current shamble continues..

There certainly seems to have been a post-brexit growth in this nationalistic type stuff. It doesn't resonant with me but as long as it seeks to be inclusive of everyone, and it seems so, then I guess it's fairly harmless?

I'll hazard a guess that it's a clumsy attempt to galvanise a country absolutely riven by division be that Brexit, Scottish Nationalism, Identity Politics, skin colour politics, Gender politics, Islamist extremism, Anti vax nutters or any number of 'causes'. It won't work unfortunately.
