Private schools, times a changing?

You're bringing politics in and seeing what you want to see.
When education is boiled down to is base constituents, all parents want is a safe and secure environment for their children where the impact of the bad parents and bad teachers is kept to a minimum. Within the state system this isn't done in many schools and parents end up desiring a solution. The common solution when this arises is to either move to a better catchment or scrimp and save to buy that environment. The key advantage private schooling has is that they can filter out bad parents and bad teachers much more efficiently and when they do get through the damage they can cause can be curtailed and limited.
Not every parent has the good fortune or ability to get their children into one of the good state schools.
If Labour really wanted to attack private education properly they would start by launching a devastating assault on the bad state schools and the terrible adults that are destroying the potential of hundreds of thousands of good children every year.
The problem isn't the existence of good schools whether private or state but the continued support of the worst schools and the endless enablement of the worst adults.
And people with the political views of yourself are their enablers. Every child deserves a civilised education and school environment regardless of state or private and many are robbed of their chance in life by appeasers, enablers and political loons.

Agreed; it’s almost impossible to fire a bad teacher, they just seem to rotate them each year or they become supply teachers.
A high senior management of very well known London University told me once, it would cost him (the university) at least 75k(legal fees) to sack a bad teacher (a proven one, with bad performance and attitude). I have double checked the figure with a secondary school head and a governor, they told me more or less the same figure. This was back in 2021.It used to be the case that the industry solution was a glowing reference so that they would leave and go and destroy lives elsewhere. Bad parents are appeased and enabled under a solid policy of abjectly refusing to do the right thing and stand up. Bad teachers and bad parents ruin the working conditions of all the good teachers and drive them away from the industry they're clearly passionate about.
Bad schools screw house values in the catchments of good ones and drive huge numbers of parents into the private system who would prefer not to have to pay away those sums.
But rather than attack the worst schools, the worst teachers and worst parents we have a government that is hell bent on attacking the refuges from these awful people and enabling them even further.
That's why the private school network will prevail. It will have to reshape to fit the customer means but Labour are going to create even greater demand from good parents to escape the appeased and enabled s
ts that are being further empowered than under the Tories.
Just imagine for one moment being a struggling parent, just about getting by, working all day and just needing a safe and secure environment for your children while you work and for that environment to offer the best chance for your children to learn and become the best they can in life. Now imagine that the government you believed existed to protect you instead just attacked an end of the education system that was totally irrelevant to you while appeasing and enabling the worst people who make your life a misery because of their awful impact upon your children and all the children of good parents who can't get to the catchment of a good state school?
It's an evil borne from hate, prejudice and ignorance.

Absolutely. Appeasement of the underclass is the ruin of this country and like all significant issues the country faces, it is ignored and bad behaviours rewarded as they are "vulnerable" Conservative and labour governments have both enabled this situation to grow.Bad schools screw house values in the catchments of good ones and drive huge numbers of parents into the private system who would prefer not to have to pay away those sums.

so where is this outcome on the IFS Mickey mouse research on VAT and -lastminutedotcom- Impact assessment ?

I assume we will see more of these and eventual closures.

So no different from any of the previous politicians that have promised huge numbers of new housing, only for a tiny fraction to actually be built. The ignorant lunatic, who promised to deliver 1.5 million homes (while other lunatic colleague was driving inflation and unemployment) with no understanding of either construction, development, affordability or simple basic maths.

'According to the NEU, a newly qualified teacher at Farringtons earns just £33,757 compared to £36,412 in a local state school.

The highest-paid teachers at the school earn £50,534, which the union says is significantly less than the £53,994 earned by top-paid teachers in outer London state schools.'
It's as if the labour market favours better working conditions over pay?
'Would madam prefer £34k/annum and a relaxing, safe working environment and a lovely staff room with a delightful selection of biscuits or would madam prefer £3k more at one of the local comps?'
It's hard to fathom why a really pleasant working environment with none of the huge stresses of the state system would need to come close to matching the pay of local comps?
The staff very clearly proved the point when they all, to a person, elected lower salary over lower conditions.
Good luck to them in their attempt but ultimately, FRO and p

There may be an element of that but good staff there have a choice of grammar schools in Bromley, Bexley, NW Kent that they could potentially go and teach at. And that's before we get to all the other private schools in the area.
So, in a free market, how have they been able to pay less than the competition? There's even a long running teacher shortage. Is it because they're evil and threaten to murder the children of their enslaved workers?
Good luck to the workers and their pitch for a pay rise. Nothing at all wrong with that. If you don't ask, you don't get and not using the tools freely available to them would be silly but given the general environment there are likely to be some quite logical reasons as to why the employer has no need to match or out bid local competition?

This part of the UK is very definitely not your average one given that we have grammar schools as well as the significant private school network.
