I found the comments in that article by Patel and Boris more nauseating.
As would anyone sensible.

Still that seems to be where we find ourselves today.

Johnson's apologists attacking anyone who simply points out the obvious.

First Starmer then Ellwood, your idols are shown as fallen angels. It must be infuriating...

Which of his morals are you particularly impressed with?
Ouch.

Turns out wanting Boris’ job isn’t inherently enough to make you a pure as the driven snow.

If we just accept that all politicians are inherently hypocrites then everyone will be happy!

Pointing out Tobias might be a hypocrite isn't an attack. Its challenged his (TE) credibility to judge Johnson.

This is a debating forum, not really to read child like squeals of "he pinched me".

The apathy to Boris's behaviour by the public (not the highly miffed in here), might be part disengagement and part the other 650 MPs are hypocritical dirtbags too?

The hypocrisy of Boris and Co is a thing, but the policy failures should be the target for the opposition. All 650 of them look like a TOWIE needs Geordie Shore dust up. And the policy failures are / might be doing longer term damage..

Patel has said many things that are stupid in her career, but all she notes in the article is that there are FPNs for breaches, this looked like one and she expected it would be looked at....?

And Boris didn't say anything.

Don't be daft Starmer isn't my idol and nor is Ellwood.

But I you pushed me on it I think I'd choose a bloke who ran towards a maniac with a knife over a bloke who hid in a fridge to avoid a journalist.

A) it was piers morgan. Wouldnt you? and
B) he was there to see the milk processing facility. Incuding a fridge. It is, I believe known as a nothingberger. He was due to look inside.

So they were basically treating Downing St like a students residence getting pissed, puking, fighting, and generally being s. All whilst telling everyone else what they could and couldn't do. And still people will defend them? Beyond words.

He is one of the few with decent morals and that I would actually trust.

Was that actually illegal under the rules at the time? The article suggests not, but the information I can find elsewhere is incredibly unhelpful.

He attended the event a day after saying in the House of Commons that allowing families to meet over Christmas "could be very dangerous indeed", and suggesting that easing the rules over the festive period could lead to a "third wave" of the virus.
Sounds exactly what we need to bring more honesty and integrity to politics. Perhaps he could have Beth Rigby as his media spokeswoman.

That Tobias Ellswood article does make Priti Patel and Boris Johnson look very bad, especially the latter in hindsight.

TE had attended a prearranged function that under the then current Tier system was allowable and had been numbers restricted in order to comply with the rules. It took place iirc the same day as Boris suddenly did a knee jerk u turn and ordered a nationwide Christmas lockdown. TE attended anyway but then felt his actions were questionable and apologised for having done so.

The hypocrisy of Patel’s requoting of Boris’s words at the end of the article are damning.

Ellwood criticises Johnson and the apologists for Johnsons behaviour come out to attack him for it because that's all they have left.

It's pathetic.

I don't always agree with what Ellwood says and he acknowledged himself that he showed poor judgement over the meal but when it comes to patterns of behaviour and who best represents what I'd think of as Conservative values if it's between him and Johnson Ellwood would get my vote.

The 'it was different and I followed all the rules' defence. How refreshing.

So you don't find it the slightest bit hypocritical that he was calling for tighter lockdown restrictions one day and attending a social event the next?.

The only Tory MPs who have emerged from this with any credit are those who voted against the lockdown measures at times, particularly those who voted against vaccine passports and firing NHS staff unless they had a vaccine.

I like how people like you think someone showing poor judgement once and recognising and apologising for it is somehow worse than someone showing a pattern of poor judgement and blatant disregard for the rules they set and then lying to the public about it.
