Ah! the highly selective tribal excuse / b*ll*ox, which allows one politician to do something, and get away with it, whilst not allowing it for idiot Johnson.
I not defending idiot Johnson, he did after all make the rules, but the mental gymnastics being applied here, which calls for one person to be punished for doing something stupid, but allows another to get away with doing the same thing, is breathtaking.

There's nothing strange about it.

It happened a different time under different legal restrictions which is why Johnson was issued a fixed penalty notice whilst the Police said there was "no case to answer" where Starmer was concerned.
Imagine if the Durham PCC was a member of the Labour party.

No it's the reality.

Johnson behaved differently to Starmer which is why he got fined and is being investigated over whether he lied to Parliament whilst Starmer didn't and isn't.

I couldn't give a st whether Starmer got fined but there's only one lot of "highly selective tribal excuse / b*ll*ox" going on here and it's the lot that tries to pretend the two situations were the same when they very clearly weren't.

I saw yesterday someone describe Boris's defence as "yes, I went into the bank wearing a balaclava, and holding a sorn off shotgun, but I had no idea I was attending a robbery."

Sums it up really.
Only on a car forum would the use of Sorn be acceptable! smile

It’s posts like this that remind me of a quote by Thomas Sewell - “It is usually futile to try and talk facts and analysis with people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance”.
You are quoting Thomas Sewell? So accusing me of a sense moral superiority in a thread about Bozza, while relying on the Neo Nazi Tommy Sewell to shore up your point is all you've got? The Sewell quote is intellectually flawed on every level, it's meaningless drivel but seemingly resonates with you, how sad.

It took me sometime to fathom just what the hell you were going on about . . . until I realised I had misspelt Sowell’s name, so I have corrected that. However, you still consider the quote to be intellectually flawed on every level and meaningless drivel, but don’t say why! Yes it does ‘resonate’ with me.

There was a good documentary about serial liar Jeffrey Archer on C5 the other day. The parallels with BJ struck me.

Could be a fun game this.

What part of 'different circumstances and different regulations' is hard to u understand?

Plus, Starmer's stance was to say that, if found to have breached the regulations, he would resign; Johnson's was to obfuscate until found to be in breach and then to lie like a cheap Persian rug as to his understanding of his own Government's regulations.

Oh, and just to pre-emptively parry the "but tribal..." whine, I've been a member of the Tory party for 36 years...

I thought quoting a known Neo Nazi might be a bit of a stretch, even for you! As for the quote itself, it’s twaddle. It starts with an ambiguous statement ‘it is usually futile…’ with no reference as to why, so under what circumstances would it not be futile? Facts and analysis are two exclusive, presumably you can happily witter away in any other context with a morally superior being?

It’s tripe, but you cling to it if you want to, the author (and presumably you by quoting) assumes he is not ignorant so must therefore be morally superior, idiotic.

I don’t “cling” to it, it’s just one of those quotes that, amongst many others, stood out to me and ‘resonated’ as you put it. I’m having trouble understanding your critique of it as it does include the reference as to why it is “usually futile” and what exactly are you trying to say about facts and analysis?

As for the insults you include, well, it supports the quote quite nicely thank you .

So true. If Boris gets found guilty, I can almost believe all these gammons will be moaning that he can't appeal it to the European court.
You're not wrong! Hilarious

Indeed. He was locked up for lying in a place where lying is against the rules.

Did Keir invite his interior designer, his wife and his kid along too? I know you'll never see the difference, but everyone at the KS event was working with him before hand, and continued working afterwards. A group of work colleagues breaking for pizza and a beer, and then carrying on working. Nothing like Boris and his bring your own booze party.

None of that matters. This isn’t about who attended what event and what the event was. The police have already sorted that.

This is about Boris lying to parliament. Everything else about parties and whinging about Starmer is irrelevant. Parliament is now holding one of its own to account, and to its own standards.

Are you suggesting the PCC got involved in individual cases based on politics? Corruption is a big claim to make and needs some evidence.

Are you going to answer the question, or just make vague insinuations? Are you a accusing Durham Constabulary of corruption?

What Boris's teacher said about him

He said:
Boris really has adopted a disgracefully cavalier attitude to his classical studies. He sometimes seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility (and surprised at the same time that he was not appointed Captain of the school for the next half).

"I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation that binds everyone else."
Leopards and spots come to mind.
