YOU need to find out if Starmer got any help from his mates in the legal profession to get him off the hook.
There is no doubt that Johnson was f*cking stupid (To use your words), but trying to make out that Starmer did nothing wrong in relation to Covid isolating, is beyond ridiculous, when millions have SEEN him and his colleagues at a gathering during lockdown. Rayner even first tried to deny that she was there FFS!
AIUI, SKS wasn’t at a gathering. He was at work, with other people. Those same people grabbed some food. Then carried on working. There was no new gathering (which is what the rules were intended to achieve).

Taking the rules at face value, it would have been less risky for SKS to do what he did than for him to leave the building and find food elsewhere.

BJ organised one or more gatherings - parties - at which people were invited to come solely for the party.

Note I don’t have to agree with the rules. But BJ’s Govt created them, and BJ himself often explained them to the public at briefings. So it is hard to say he didn’t know them, and pretty poor to try to wiggle out.

As so often, it actually matters if you’ve broken the letter of the law, rather than others’ perception of what the law should be.

Your argument seems to be that law-breaking is fine so long as you think the activity wasn’t or should not have been illegal.

The problem is Boris and Senior Tories behaviour led others to think it was not only acceptable but actually endorsed which led to to the normalisation of events such as this….

Which the Met only couldn’t prosecute because “there was not enough evidence to “disprove the version of events provided by attendees”….

Rot, fish, head etc

Boris Johnson

The same Johnson who expelled Winston Churchills Grandson for having the audacity to defy him. He didn’t just poison his natural enemies..

Thankfully Johnson is history & leaves an indelible stain on the Tory party. Destroying them for decades to come.

What a legacy!

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

What's the importance of a dead relative? At the very least, Churchill was divisive. That everyone loved him was a myth. He ran the best cabinet this country has ever had, so kudos there, but that does not, nor should it, mean we should treat any grandchildren differently. Soames was my MP. I was glad to see him go. Mind you, that's before I was aware of Davies' abilities, or lack of them.

I used to love this quote about Soames.

"... his ex-wife had this story that being made love to by Nicholas Soames was like having a very large wardrobe with a very small key falling on top of you."

Given the 30 day suspension of Maraget Ferrier MP (who breached covid rules), I think the Johnson is now almost certainly heading for a by-election.

Strange that most of the Tories on the panel thought her suspension should be reduced to 9 days, wasn't it?

Which is odd as I think most Tories want shot of him. By election and move him up to the Lords.

It would be poor political management by the Opposition parties to push for a by election before the GE. The public will use the by election as the chance to punish/protest vote against the Tories, then switch back at the GE.
The much, much smarter play is push to leave him in situ, then use the anti-Boris factor at the GE to use the protest vote aspect to win the seat for the next 5 yrs.

Which is why they will not do it as that would require thinking further than beyond the end of the day...
We saw yesterday at PMQs that the opposition cannot even think what the answer to a question about standards asked by somebody who called them scum would be..

I'm pretty sure that Rayner won't be the one calling the big strategic shots. And no-one will be making decisions on the hoof.

I fairness she wasn’t wrong. But not the most PC thing to say..

Johnson is history thankfully. Yesterdays news.
Good riddance.

In other news, King Charles was doing a great job in repairing the damage caused by Johnson personally & his type.

All of whom will be getting their P45s soon.

Onwards & upwards

Funny how all the apologists making excuses for Johnson's disgraceful behaviour suddenly act sooooo offended when Rayner uses the word scum hehe

But she was. Not all Conservative MPs are scum. Not all Labour MPs are scum. There are some really great Tory and Labour MPs.

Her use of language was appalling for someone who wants to be a leader. General labels don't help anyone, nor does negative campaigning.

To be fair it’s a fairly accurate catch all adjective that covers most of crooks, bullies, liars, racists, etc that seem to make up the conservative benches.

Except by “all”, Stewie meant 1 person. Precisely 1 person did that above.
Alas for poor Angela, research continually and consistently shows that the public dislikes politicians talking like that. Her greatest strength to her supporters remains her weakness to those who aren’t.
