To be fair I don't think comparisons to Russia help.

Whatever Johnson's faults or my views on his unsuitability for office the public can at least vote him in and out in free and fair elections.

But we can we though? It is the Tory MPs who decide whether they have confidence in him or not and then decide on 2 candidates to go to the Tory party membership.

The electorate of his constituents can him vote out as an MP and the rest of the electorate can decide if they want to vote for a Tory candidate whilst Johnson is leader.

The public have no say who is the leader of any political party and therefore the PM if that party wins an election.

Yes, I am being pedantic but that is the reality

Yes in the form of a General Election and hopefully next time the (realistic) choice for PM won't be as stark as a pathological liar with no moral compass or Corbyn.

Our system is a long way from perfect or ideal my point was simply that suggestions we're no better off than Russia isn't right.

Agree that comparison to Russia are wrong.

The electorate can vote in a GE but not directly who will be the next Leader

Ellwood on LBC now and isn't pulling any punches.

Also in the studio is Caroline Slocock who was Thatcher's private secretary.

Ellwood just asked her if Thatcher had walked in one of the parties whether she'd have closed it down or stayed to have a quick drink.

I think we all know the answer.

What did she say?

We know Boris is no Maggie, yet even 10 years after her death her statue was defiled within a week of being erected. The caring sharing left, most of whom weren't even born when she was in power.

Hell, if Theresa May walked into a Downing St party we know she’d put a stop to it.

She said she wouldn't have stood for it and would have put a stop to it.

Not sure what an 18 month old story about a statue has to do with anything.

fk!!! Is he back? Labour have no chance then.

Boris won't quit voluntarily - he's probably the first PM who gets very few offers after leaving office - and he's got quite a lot of children and a demanding wife to mantain...

Yep. It’s always quite amusing to me that there’s so much vitriol towards her. My father had a mega job and was part of one of the most powerful unions back in the day. We had a good life, enough money and his final salary pension, on which he retired at 52, still makes my eyes water. Yet he hates Thatcher. He hates her because she stopped the lazy, workshy unions destroying production. She stopped the unions running an old boys network for recruitment. And in the 80’s, being told this by….a woman, outrageous biggrin Deapite being the archetypal upper middle class family, my father hated capitalism. It’s amusing.

She was not perfect. But she had both conviction and moral fortitude. Boris is a product of fast tracking a moron into a position which is beyond him. Those around him, IMO, that make it all work are now running for cover as his fallout is so toxic. He’s lied since being mayor, and before. A terrible track record in the Brexit campaign and during lockdown, even now he refuses to take ownership of his post. He said today he ‘respectfully disagrees’ that he shouldn’t have attended various parties whilst the general public were locked up like rats, watching loved ones pass.

The man is so out of touch and has now doubled down on his insane path forwards. He will be ousted, but not before he inflicts severe damage on the party.

This. The Sue Gray report is actually quite damning, it suggests that No 10 did bloody well know that they were in breach of their own lockdown rules, hence requests that pissed up members of staff exit via the back door so they weren't so noticeable. It also notes that a culture whereby no one could blow the whistle on said breaches existed and that security staff and cleaners were abused for raising concerns.
It does also note that these things are being addressed...

Doesn't make it better that it happened at all. But does indicate "learning".

Time will tell I suppose whether the “learnings” are retained or whether just crammed to pass an exam and then promptly forgotten.

He is one of the few with decent morals and that I would actually trust.
This Tobias Ellwood?

I found the comments in that article by Patel and Boris more nauseating.
