Hello mate I think we've met before on PH runs! You're correct, nobody in their late 20s/early 30s needs a 4 bed semi-detached as a first house, but even so, the skyrocketing of house prices in bigger cities isn't unnoticeable. Personally, it's more disappointing for me because the friend circle I grew up with have mostly all moved outside of where home was, so out of the 8 of us that remain close friends, only 3 live relatively close to where we grew up. Is that a good thing or a bad thing - well, that's probably a discussion for a different thread, but I do miss seeing all my old friends at the same time.

where is that?
I can sort of stomach paying £6- £6.50 a pint, its when they charge the same for a shandy or £5 for coke (out those horrible jet taps) that annoys me.
I was in Redhill last weekend. A pint of Estrella for her and a bottle of Coke for me (driving duties). The damn pub had just opened and wasn't even fully furnished yet, the roof was bare and the side doors were closed and still had their protective covers on!I can sort of stomach paying £6- £6.50 a pint, its when they charge the same for a shandy or £5 for coke (out those horrible jet taps) that annoys me.
I had two shandies that evening too and they were the same price as normal pints.

I can recommend the Spoons in Redhill. One of the better ones. Plenty of real beer under £3I had two shandies that evening too and they were the same price as normal pints.
and it is female and child friendly. No problem sitting there with a newspaper and a coffee all day.
Fussy folks worried about sitting in the same room as a bunch of ordinary folk can pay 2-3 times
as much elsewhere, if they want to. Choice is a good thing.
I think the Garland used to be a good Harveys pub, but I haven't been in there in 10+ years.

Londoners can console themselves that MPs can get a pint of Worthington's Cream flow ( a very nice beer), or a guest ale for £2.90 a pint in the House of Commons bar,
And a main meal for about £3 too! paulguitar said:

A toilet with a seat on it?Sad news for those of you in London who like a 'spoons, the Knights Templar in Chancery Lane closed at the weekend. It is a heck of a building, and the inside was very impressive, so despite it being a JDW, I will be sad too see it close as I did have a few pints in there with friends on occasion. It was a decent boozer due to the crowd that used to go in there. Mostly the legal profession and similar.
