Long time boxing fan here and have seen my fair share of robberies. I genuinely think this was the worst I've ever seen. I gave Taylor 3 rounds, which after the point deductions makes it 116-109 to Catterall. At a push you could give Taylor 4 rounds but that's it.

Even Howard Foster, the only judge who scored the fight for Catterall somehow found 6 rounds in Taylor's favour. Terrible scoring, but the other 2 were just incomprehensible.

And why is it that in the UK, we have guys doubling as referees and judges? Do the BBofC not have the money to get specialists in each field? This does not happen in high level fights in the US.

All the great champions offer a rematch when a disputed decision is given to them, think Mayweather Vs Maidana and Castillo. Ali Vs Norton, amongst others. If Taylor had any decency (which he clearly showed he doesn't post fight) he would do the same, but that absolutely won't happen. Even if the governing bodies call for it, he will just get stripped and move up anyway.

Was incredible, I agree, but was hard to watch at times, particularly the effect of that WWE move.

I see David Diamante is making his ring announcer comeback on the 5th March 2022 after the horrific motorcycle accident not long after the Joshua Usyk fight (i think). Being paralysed and having to learn to walk again, along with the other significant injuries he sustained, quite a remarkable comeback. A nice story after the controversies of the Taylor/Catterall fight.

Just watched the highlights. Wow!

Also, it's much more remarkable now I've seen Eddie Hearn's tweet about the result.

Taylor never won that fight i gave him 4 rounds but its not Taylors fault he won its the judges ... Taylor can't make the weight anymore and has said he will give catterrel a rematch but at 147

The blame really lies with the promoters and broadcasters - the judges were just trying to please the people with the money as they hold the whip-hand. Which is why most upsets are nearly always in favour of the a-side. And the promoters like is that way, which is why nothing ever changes. They only get upset when it is so obvious it becomes embarrassing to all involved.

I don't think the reason Taylor lost was due to the weight - as I posted at the time, the problem was his tactics. And Shane McGuigan has also said something similar today. Whilst we know Shane has quite a few reasons to be salty towards Taylor, I think he calls this about right.

And Taylor isn't going to give a rematch to Catterall at any weight, regardless of what he says. It only made sense this time because he was the mandatory, and Taylor wanted the win so he could assess his options at 140lb again for later this year. For a rematch, it would be too risky, with little to no interest to a US audience, and so generates a relatively low purse.

I've lost some respect for Taylor with his post-fight behaviour.

His demeanour in the ring pre-scorecards showed he knew he'd lost. He then went all bravado claiming the win but has seen the public's reaction and is desperately trying to save face with this "I'll rematch at 147" BS. He knows full well that Cattrall wanted the 140 belts, not a W vs Taylor on his record in a non-title fight.

Agreed. Time for contrition but hes come across a total melt. He knows very well he was gifted that fight.

True, but at the same time look at what Top Rank nearly did to Taylor in the Ramirez fight. It was pretty clear Top Rank thought they would make more money if Ramirez won that undisputed fight, with his California fanbase and Mexican heritage. So even though Taylor won that fight at a canter, including scoring two knockdowns, the scoring was much closer than it should have been e.g. if the fight had actually been closer, Ramirez would have won it on points.

Tyson Fury has said Whyte is his last fight before retirement.

Wonder if Usyk v AJ will go head considering the situation of Ukraine. Usyk has been pictured armed and in army uniform.

That is very humbling to see. Warrior both in and out of the ring.
I hope AJ, Fury have been in touch to wish him well.

Doesn't Fury have another fight left on his contract I seem to remember? Either way it's all PR for the forthcoming fight. He will deffo fight Joshua I think that will be his last fight. If Usyk does end up out of action it would be the perfect reason (I won't say excuse as that would be in poor taste) for Joshua to skip the Usyk rematch. Would they want to freeze Usyk out under the circumstances though? A very complicated situation. If Russia does get as far as talking the whole of Ukraine Usyk will likely be in prison for how long?
