Russia are sending in the big guns, no sorry big buns for it's new General in the area.

"Due to significant losses among competent commanders, Russia has been forced to send in retired Major General Pavel to oversee a special forces unit operating in Eastern Ukraine.

Pavel is a 67-year-old veteran of Russia's war in Afghanistan."

Big target.
'I run marathons.'
And by that he means he eats them continually.

The civilised world calls those "Snickers" nowadays.
If the rumours are true then its reported that this man eats 5 meals a day and drinks 1 litre of vodka...every day eek his uniform will need to be specially made and will need to wear 2 sets of body armour. He is currently retired so they must be desperate!
Not wishing to spoil the fun but, as I pointed out earlier, twitter now suggesting that he is in Ukrainian camo and wearing a Ukrainian Border Guard cap. (Same link but in the replies).

Russian's have been busy bombing a hugely strategic shopping centre, full of shoppers today.. It's hard not to be emotive about it, but they are utterly abhorrent.
Cotaining a thousand civilians according to the BBC.
I can't quite decide ,if the russian equipment and tech is so bad that they have no control where their munitions land, or if they are just utter cocks and just don't care in the slightest.

Suspect it's a lot of both.
Takes no deciding

See it as it is

Never forget what Russia is capable of

If Russian gear was so bad that they weren't hitting areas like the above, they would make adjustments to ensure they were doing so in the future

Much of the world have now witnessed what Russia is capable of

It will have been done to ensure that every Ukrainian is aware that life will not return to normality until Zelenskyy surrenders.

Allied bombing of Germany proved that it doesn't work. Germany didn't surrender because the population rose up and made Hitler surrender. Germany surrendered because it was defeated militarily. They ran out of soldiers and materiel.

Ukraine isn't running out of anything - and it isn't running away.

Not sure where you are finding a connection with bombing of Germany?

Well Allied bombing of Japan prove it does work if it's sufficiently damaging.....

And one might add that Chechnya and Syria proved that decimating cities ultimately can and will work.

it must make you more carfull going forward after that, it looks like the rest all stopped and became a sitting target , hopefully with the drone up the rest will be hit.

Would there be any survivors from that tank ?
No sign of fire which suggests the fuel and ammunition weren't hit.

Still probable that the force and spalling did some damage to the crew and any material that wasn't secured will have bounced about!

More strikes on snake island overnight. I don't suppose they can realistically re-occupy it except by air, which'd make getting equipment there rather harder. But failing that, they can deny use of it perhaps.
Can you imagine trying to "persuade" somebody to be stationed there?!

An excellent life limiting career move.
The place is littered with blown up military hardware. Can't be good for the morale of new arrivals.
Reminds me of the Monty Python sinking castle scene:

https://greenelibrary.bibliocommons.com/v2/quotati...

Seems that the Russians will keep sending troops and equipment there, regardless of what happens. When did the Russians fall back to WWI tactics?

What's different here is the level of support and assistance from the outside (relatively rich, relatively powerful, Western) world for the people who are under attack.
There are other differences, but that's a significant one.

Chatting to some Russian friends at the weekend. Apparently when Boris went to Ukraine last week, on TV he said "hello I'm Boris Johnson", with hello being in being said in the Russian dialect - not Ukrainian, which went down like a cup of cold sick in Ukraine but cheered the Russians right up. What a nob...
Do your Russian friends get their news from Telegram?

Is this the TV appearance where he apparently used Russian?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEbnsTbd_ik&t=...

Could be true, Boris is known for gaffs, could also be complete tripe but people dont question it as they think Boris has just made another gaff. I suspect the UK news would have made a bit of a fuss about it seeing as they like to dog pile Boris at the moment.
Don't know mate. High-level business people who live in Central London. Apparently it's gone viral over there.
I’m pretty sure most Ukrainians respect the fact that Boris was the first to help, and the first leader to visit their war torn country, in its complete desperation. I’m pretty sure they would forgive his slip up if it is even true. He didn’t do this himself, someone else would have told him what/how to say this.

As to Russians being cheered up by this…. Who gives a fk what they think, and who do you think cares that the think this? Tell them to duck off back to Russia if they think this was funny and cheered them up.

+1. Seemed quite an inappropriate comment to make in this thread. I don't think Al will be backing it up.

A strange form of "going viral" where it doesn't appear on any english-language outlet.

The Allied carpet bombing of Germany was a deliberate attempt to make Germany "reap the whirlwind". It was a valid strategy that had never been attempted. Everybody assumed that it would work. The carpet bombing only helped win because it destroyed military targets as well as civilian targets. German morale was never broken. Putin is attempting to win by using 1st and 2nd World War tactics.

Lots of artillery. Attacker thinks "thank God I'm not on the end of that". Defender digs in and rides it out.

Attack civilians. Attacker thinks "thank God I'm not on the end of that". Defender becomes more determined not to be defeated. It stiffens the defenders' morale.

Neither are particularly successful compared to well-aimed strikes at critical military targets.

He was the first G7 leader to visit not the first first. Mind you they were both in Poland in the run up forging the tri partite agreement.

Quite likely that they all suffered internal injuries at the very least due to the pressure waves.

It's exceedingly satisfying watching Russian armour go up in smoke.
