Will be travelling Glasgow to Inverness soon, and have a bit of spare time to add an hour to the journey - any decent detours on quiet roads that I can make? From a quick look on the map, apart from a couple of roads parallel to the A9 or going up through somewhere like Ferness there ain't a whole load of roads up that way...

some route via glenshee, cock bridge, lecht, tomintoul ?

not sure how much extra time it would add but some excellent sections of tarmac to experience.

Google reckons an extra hour and a half but it does look an interesting route.

Get yourself on to YouTube and have a look at Catchpole’s Aston N430 Old Military Road video for inspiration. I’ve done it coming off the A9 at Dunkeld and up and over via Blairgowrie. Memorable to say the least.

Yes, Blairgowrie to Braemar and Grantown via Glenshee is a lovely driver. Generally pretty light traffic too, apart from the odd errant sheep.

I would do nothing more exciting than stop off at the house of Bruar for a nice lunch if you only have an hour.

eek The Mill café in Blair Atholl is preferable to the House of Grue but then so is scraped up road kill.

Either of those are probably too early for lunch anyway. Like the idea of the backroads to Grantown, will scope it out, thanks.

Each to there own but I could kill an hour just in the foodhall at House of Bruar never mind having lunch.

Utter bks. I've been going there ever since it opened and can highly recommend it. Top quality produce and excellent staff.

The food is fine but it's a self-service restaurant which does not make for a relaxing dining experience.
