Why a lack of current F1 teams at FoS?

I remember most teams always sent a good representation..

Agreed, but it’s always been the same, the closeness in the calendar.

I’ve had it on all weekend on YouTube .

I picked up something this afternoon when George was running the current car and the worry of it overheating?!

It’s come to something if the current cars are becoming to technical to run at the FoS.

All the teams, always used to send a contingent.

To see Nige in the ex Jim Clarke Lotus 25 grinning from ear-to- ear - saying it’s the best F1 car he’s ever driven..

It won't be a current car as the regulations won't allow it-I think it was a W10 dressed up in 2020 colours perhaps?

Yep, it was the 2019 W10 Merc

Me and my lad were discussing this point, that the current F1 teams don't bother attending, they send a token driver or two, normally a reserve driver. The teams seem to run seperate teams who run the 'classic' or older model cars. Ferrari for example took up pretty much 4 times the space of the other teams with the Ferrari Classico team.

Considering a load of the teams are based in the UK, that they'd use this event as a really good PR exercise. I know it's a 'down' week for them, but it's Silverstone next race so not like they've got a huge distance to cover?

The staff at Red Bull are on rotation, the lads looking after the car at the Sir Jackie Stewart Classic last week were all members of the travelling crew at some point.

F1 is too intensive these days. When the FoS started there used to be only 16 races on the calendar - now there's over 20 every year.

I think the logistics of moving the cars and the technical support needed to run them makes it more impractical to take them to Goodwood these days.

No its outside of the cost cap. Marketing and promo costs are excluded,

I think that a few years ago, it was considered that the teams were getting too competitive, and the cars too fast!

People were dying (a driver and a marshall) - so a halt was called.

Drivers and teams might be taking a sensible view of staying away from such a large and open public event, with Covid numbers on the rise again.

An unnecessary and avoidable risk for the teams who will be running the cars at Silverstone this weekend

Talking to the teams as I was marshalling in that area, a key reason the headline drivers are not there is that this is their only weekend off after a double header with lots of travel - followed by another double header. George Russell was there as he asked the team to go and not the other way around.

While the demo teams are outside of the cost cap the impact of needing to make parts to run the cars is being affected by this according to the discussions on the weekend.

I guess having lots of races and limiting resources will have a knock on impact of seeing lots of cars at Goodwood or similar promotional events - enjoy it while we can.

It’s a bit strange though as Nick Heidfeldt set the record in 1999 in an F1 car, the year later was the double fatality and after that came the ban on current F1 cars - however the fatal crash in 2000 was a ‘60s car and cars of that era have been running up the hill ever since.
I suppose they thought things were getting too fast but then the last couple of years have seen cars with blistering times allowed.
Although it adds to the variety, I don’t think it would be as interesting seeing an F1 car win every year. I would like to see a proper hillclimb car like a Gould give the McMurtry a run for it’s money though.
