Should be a real concern to any nation that had just spaffed it's entire defence budget on two really good ships. Oh... Wait....
Not really they have 3 x Phalanx guns per carrier which are designed to put a wall of lead up to stop things like this. And 6 miniguns.

It’s against a target boat but if that had explosives on that’s going bang pretty quick.

I see they've cut out the bits of the video where the CIWS is just jerking left and right like R2D2 with the horn doing the Hokey Cokey, and 98elise stood there smacking the gubbins in the back of it with a large wrench and shouting "Work, you bd".

How dare you !!

He stroked it gently and whispered sweet nothings ( with a big hammer )

Russia just look desperate, they lost over 1000 troops in the last 24hrs it seems and similar numbers most days this week.
I'm not sure that I really believe the numbers, or that they exist in isolation.

It seems to be part of the current regular round of 'glorious victory due in upcoming planned offensive/we've killed loads of Orcs while no problems on our side/this all be over tomorrow if you gift us more stuff' that the politicians & military commanders like to pump out in lieu of actual progress.

It's the same propaganda lines both sides learnt in the Soviet days. Everyone knows it's bullst but it serves a purpose.
Oh that's interesting. Can you linky European sources which question the 1000 a day number?
Asking this the other way round is probably more fitting: Is there any serious party who would confirm these numbers?
That said, here is a European source that ponders the credibility of Ukrainian, russian, US and Oryx figures: https://www.zdf.de/nachrichten/politik/verluste-ge...

That’s what I’ve read too, Tommy Cookers, was another unpleasant but accurate German nickname for the Sherman’s.
But Shermans would be filled with Yanks, Tommies are British.
Apart from the 17,000 or so Shermans the British & Empire forces received under Lend Lease, obviously.
We even modified many of them into the Sherman Firefly, with the 17 pdr gun, which enabled the British Army to field a genuine Tiger killer on the battlefield.

Whilst researching a now defunct Pie Kwon Do reference, I did happen across a list of UK martial arts including "Shin Kicking", undertaken with either clogs or steel-toe boots, and I reckon if Segal comes up to me and gives it large with all that Crouching Tiger / Hidden Dragon crap I'll opt for the steel-toe boots, have him a blinder on the left shin, and while the fat bleeder is wincing from that land a right-foot knock-out in the clackers to finish it. Was disappointing to see that Ecky Thump wasn't mentioned in the list though.

Russian officials in panic over Putin was crime arrest warrant
https://dnyuz.com/2023/03/23/private-chat-leaks-sh...
They now realise they, by association with Putin, may well have consigned their future to one that never allows them to leave Russia for fear of detention and trail overseas.

This is a subtle but powerful tool. Not just dished out on a whim, but based on investigation and proof there is a case to be answered in court.

Add in the little Wagner spat with China over the death of Chinese mine workers in Africa and this all starts to compromise the core of Putin’s cesspit of a government.
Also if you're a 30yo old official who has committed a crime you know they could get you any time in the next 50 years. The regime is unlikely to outlast you and who know how willing the next regime will be to hand people over. You're going to be very reluctant to obey orders to wipe out civilian infrastructure.

The fact that 17 children were immediately handed back to their parents makes it useful in itself. (Although perhaps counter productive overall. But courts are supposed to be impartial rather than doing the politically right thing.)

They all know that the day after Putin falls the entire population are going to do what Germany did post WW2 and there won't be a single pro-Putin guy in Russia. There will likely come a time when they will be only two willing to hand people over.

This is the thin end of the wedge, Ukraine has been gathering huge amounts of information about hundreds/thousands of war crimes. Watch this video of one incident where a civilian couple took a wrong tun in their car. Long story short the Ukranian’s have identified the Russian soldier responsible,,,,quite incredible really.

https://youtu.be/o8K-zi5PxMI

Whether that soldier ever gets prosecuted who knows but I imagine there will be a mechanism where simplistically Ukraine issues an arrest warrant which will mean that that individual won’t be able to travel freely.

Dunno. I've thought he was a bit sus for a while. If he's found to not only have lied but also been involved in siphoning donations then he should be locked up for a bit.

Depleted means it does not have any more Radioactivity. It is a very dense metal one and a half more than than lead, they used it in F1 as ballast. Yes if you ingest it you will get sick, much like eating a remote control battery will kill you. But so will lead.
depleted uranium has less radioactivity not that it does not have any more radioactivity....
Yes true, I was wrong and should have clarified that it has less radio activity.

Are those Tanks taken out by DU going to be disposed of correctly? You can be sure there will be a process from all involved.
But are the Train carriages that took the bodies of the Russians from Chernobyl trenches last year going to be disposed of in Belarus? This is why you can't visit Norilisk in Russia as they really don't care if you get sick as they believe they have an unlimited supply of men.

On a positive note, on Monday Finland should be officially NATO so the extra capacity of material that Finland has will be available to Ukraine, its about the same size as Germanys.
April will be very interesting to see how much of a punch Ukraine can inflict on places other than Bahkmut

Yes I watched that the other day. Incredible story and I'm sure many more like that will come out once this is all over.

I can’t read the article because of paywall. However, one thing I’d say is there are a lot of people that have spent years on the net talking tough and saying what badass operators they would be if something kicked off. Americans, Brits, all sorts. But where are they?

A few are involved in Ukraine in various ways. Some post videos, some don’t. Some have died. Some have faked it and some no doubt have taken advantage of the situation. There are legions set up for foreigners to serve in. You hear some English speaking voices on film.

Many others are sat at home saying “that’s fake”. Doing nothing else but trying to prove that other people are doing something that’s not what it seems.

I would have expected to see thousands of badass volunteers swelling the ranks to defend the west. But the numbers seem to be far lower.

I think anyone giving help to Ukraine of any kind is a real hero. Be it fighting, medics, helping people escape, looking after refugees, fund raising, delivering supplies, teaching and instructing, even reporting and publicising, holding to account,

But there are many people that just sit back and denigrate and complain. The worst of these inhabit Twitter and push facts that even Russian bits raise an eyebrow over. I wished they’d fek right off.

I'm amazed Ukraine attracted one sane foreigner with genuine experience who are who they claimed to be.

Kudos to those who are.
