Fast moving thread, not gone back far, have we had the US escalation of Patriot delivery to Ukraine?
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/03/21/politics/us-pat...
Hadn’t seen that. Great news about the Abrams in particular, I think previously they were building tanks specifically for Ukraine and it was 12 months or so before they’d be delivered.

Supplying refurbished M1A1 which are easier to maintain than the M1A2 and need less training.

As I wrote in the early months of the war, China will (economically) walk over the corpse of russia -or what's going to remain of it after all of this-.

That's not going to be good at all for us: we will have China right at our front door from then on and either we (EU and UK) take some serious measures or we will slowly but surely be the next to fall to China's economic expansion: first the less powerful nations -see what's happened already in Montenegro*- and then all others.
China will be the winners in this when it all shakes out in a few years, they are siding with Russia to keep this conflict going as long as possible to keep the instability going in the EU.

As an added benefit they will leverage their position to access all the useful Russian resources and territory.
Certainly does seem like that doesn't it ? Him with his 12 point peace plan reminds me of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka and his half hearted "Stop Dont, come back" pleas as the golden ticket winners meet their respective fates. He really doesn't give a flying about Russian soldiers, Ukrainian Soldiers, Ukrainian civilians as that falls under human rights and this is China, and as we know they arent exactly paragons of virtue on that front.

But, I do believe Xi when he said "No Nukes" as that could lead to big, big escalation where we (the west) get fked, Russia gets double fked with sprinkles and the rest might get fked straight away but eventually everyone is fked, nuclear winter etc. The Chinese state is ruthless but it doesn't seem to have that Fatalistic, Nihilistic streak that pervades Russia.

Xi seems reasonably smart, but ultimately ruthless, everything is about him and China. People say Putin isnt stupid, I bed to differ, imagine if you had that job and managed to fk it up this badly, its only terror and ingrained apathy keeping him in power.

He's more self-deluded than stupid.

No one stays sharp forever.

Creating and believing your own reality plus getting old and decrepit at the same time doubles down on disastrous decision making.

Xi is very astute. Whatever happens in this China comes out stronger.

Something in Sevastopol port has had a "special accident".

Suggestions either a sub or a signals ship.

Moscow news suggesting a sucessfully repelled drone attack
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2023/03/22/situatio...

Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said two women, who shot down two of the three drones with small arms fire, will be awarded and given cash bonuses.

They've shut down the ferries as reports that people were leaving Crimea were claimed to be a lie spread by Kyiv.

"Information is spreading about evacuations from the peninsula by ferry crossings and other such nonsense," said the Russian-installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev.

I guess no ferries no people leaving wink

Interesting review of Putins performance as a strategic leader from General Petraeus on this podcast:
https://www.moneymazepodcast.com/podcast/general-p...

A strategic leader needs to excel at four tasks
  1. Get the big ideas right
  2. Communicate effectively internally and externally
  3. Oversee the execution of the strategy
  4. Refine and adapt
Putin has performed miserably, according to Petraeus (and it is hard to argue with him).
  1. Big ideas? Absolutely wrong.
  2. Communications? Appalling - uncompelling screeds of grievance-laden rhetoric.
  3. Execution? Abysmal
  4. Adapt? Has made some changes but too little too late.
Petraeus's verdict on Zelenskyy was "Churchillian".

The whole podcast is very interesting and worth a listen.

It does seem to be drone boats again. One was defo caught by either a mine or netting or something.
Another seems to have got through as lots of windows blown out etc so something went bang.

Hacking the local radio stations to broadcasting fake Radio messages to the local population to evacuate. Love it.

This is the fundamental problem with playing straight from the Vranyo playbook.

  1. No one believes that you believe your big ideas. Let alone that they should.
  2. No one believes that you believe what you say. Let alone that they should.
  3. As per two above points, no one really knows what the strategy really is, or if they should feedback information.
  4. You neither facilitate or participate in proper, analytic management, feedback or communication. You are toast.

hehe Yes, politically, we are lost here in the UK.

That said, the lies are on a whole different scale in Russia. More prevalent and more nefarious.

Putin wants his oppressed population and western Tankies to believe that we're the same as them.

We aren't.
