Hi, So I'm currently in the market for a new car. I have set a budget of around £45k but could be willing to shift a little bit if the right deal was there.

I don't drive a huge amount at the moment as I work from home, Maybe 5000 miles a year? So I am willing to sacrifice a little bit of comfort for fun, However, that being said. I'm not a mechanic, so I still need a car that is somewhat modern, reliable and low mileage. Also, as this would be my only car, It would ideally still also be somewhat practical as a daily.

For simplicity, here are some basic requirements I would have.

Mileage: < 25k (could maybe flex up to <30k for a nice deal)
Year: Ideally > 2020, Although >2018 would be okay again for a nice deal
Fuel Economy: >25mpg ideally, Although really not too fussed as long as it's not awful
Reliability: Good as I'm not a mechanic and am looking to keep this car for a while
Insurance: Ideally, not terrible as I'm 25, and they want to charge me an arm and a leg for anything faster than a lawn mower.

Currently looking at a few of the following.
Porsche 718 Cayman
BMW M850i V8 (These seem like a really good deal with how much they have depreciated)
BMW M340i (Perhaps a more sensible option?)
Mercedes AMG C63

What do you all think? I'm open to any recommendations.

No M2 Comp ZX? Preferable to an M4 IMHO, right on budget and cheaper to insure I'm reliably informed.

I'm biased, but my first thought was the M4 as well.

Think I see an M4 every time I leave the house.

I'd go Alfa.

I’ve owned or extensively driven all of the above apart from the BMW M850i.

All good cars (can’t comment on the M850i though).

1. M340i best daily- eg relatively economical and nearly new for your budget. Auto only
2.C63- awesome engine, maybe a bit of a blunt instrument and thirsty. Auto only
2. 718- great handling/steering/ride. Meh engine. Manual option available.
3 M2 (I’ve currently got a manual comp which I love). Great all rounder but less luxurious than option 1 & 2. Prefer it to M4 I had previously although M4 better finished internally.

Personally not a fan of the M2, the skewed driving position & the overall feeking the M4 is the better overall car (i'd actually go M3 as I think it looks better but you can't get them) especially in CS form.

I've always wished that the Alfa was available as a Coupe. The Saloon is a lovely looking thing for sure, but I think a Coupe version would look even better. cool

Re M2 vs M4. Both are on the same F series platform. I ran a 2016 M4 for 3 years/35k miles and am coming up to 3 yrs 30k miles in a M2C. Yes the the driving position is very slightly offset but is the same in both cars.

Another shoutout for the M2.

At 27 I did find it a few hundred more to insure than an M4 at £1500 year but felt it was worth it.

The Alfa quadrifoglio is another shout and was good on insurance probably as it attracts a more careful driver.

Toyota Supra is well worth a look.

Alfa QV or Supra probably the best picks.

I agree.
(Unfortunately I’ve had to settle for the 4 door…)
