So the government has changed but unfortunately not the media.

How long before LBC's James O'Brien stops enjoying his post orgasmic afterglow and gets stuck into the now current bunch in charge.

If nothing else, I hope we can at least stick with the same PM for the next 5 years.

The scary aspect for me is that the Tories have made such a balls up of everything that Starmer has manged to get to be PM without actually offering the electorate any firm policies or promises. He's managed to keep the hard left in check throughout the campaign, but surely they'll come crawling out from beneath their rocks now that they have a majority and make life very difficult for our new PM.
Certainly that's no doubt the line that the Daily Mail et al will be peddling. Starmer and his new labour party got the majority. Like Corbyn before him, he has been caefully vetting new candidates so they are on board with his political stance. I can't see how the "old left" are going to do anything at all except mutter quietly from the few back bench seats they will occupy.

Unless Labour borrow, they have no wiggle room on tax.

They have the same amount of money the previous Govt did - unless they raise tax or borrow more.

Both of which they've done in the past.

SKS is going to have a hard job selling that to an electorate that didn't enthusiastically vote Labour. They secured victory on 35% of the vote and didn't really increase their vote share over 2019 and actually 5% lower than Corbyn in 2017.

I feel sorry for all the people who carry 'Tory Scum Out' placards during the weekly Pro-Terrorist Hamas demonstrations...they're now out of a job frown
Who will they blame now?

Are you suggesting we afford him some slack in a way we wouldn’t if Tories won?
Hardly comparable, given the tories have been in power for many years already. Nobody would have said "give Rishi some time" if he'd got back in this morning as he would have just been continuing the same job!

You don't know much about certain bits of The Left/Protest/Activist brigade if you don't think they're perfectly comfortable calling Starmer and the government/party he leads Tory Scum. hehe

Maybe just spray-paint 'Red' at the top, but a lot won't even feel the need to do that.

And that's the problem. Too many people will expect an immediate change. They will expect better standards of living by next week. They will expect NHS waiting lists to evaporate, they will expect a cheaper cost of living by Christmas.

When I say slack I mean excuses. Unfortunately Labour talks the talk but in real terms will probably not be able to do much better than Rishi with the current tax revenue/costs.

So I am expecting one of 2 things… either they go back on their manifesto promises and increase taxes, etc and/or cut services or they will be just like the Tories and blame the Tories for it.

When you are in opposition and try to convince the public you are a better alternative and a better plan then you shouldn’t back track on it.

The bottom line is that not people switched to Labour just highlighting they are believing much of what he is saying.

Sure a change is healthy but it won’t be as promised… I hope to be wrong. Let’s give it time but no excuses, I want to see their plan in action asap…. If they actually have one!!

They change their colours so that they can maintain a constant contrariness, they'll find a way to hate Starmer and so it'll soon be all #LabourOUT with them backing the Greens.

Own Jones is the perfect example of such a person. Soon as it became apparent Labour were about to win the election he ran away from them so that he could continue his grift.

Thatcher, Trump, JK Rowling, people who owned slaves 300 years ago, the Daily Mail and of course the good old Jewish controlled media, still lots to be angry about.

As far as I am aware they made no commitment not to increase tax. They promised not to raise the rates for income tax, NI and VAT, which is something very different.

People didn't switch to Labour though.

Labour's vote share was about the same as 2019. And 5% less than 2017.

Labour didn't fet in because people voted for them. They got in because people voted for anyone but Tory.

I switched to Labour.
So did my parents.
So did my work colleagues.

Just because a number stays the same, doesn't mean there isn't longtail variances within the makeup of that number.

Labour swing by country sums it up:
UK: +1.6%
England: +0.6%
Wales: -3.9%
Scotland: +17.0%

They only really did well where there was a clear anti SNP and anti Conservative sentiment.

I voted Labour.

One of the 1st things I would like Labour to do is re join the customs union.
Mandelson has just been on R4 and made a very good point that they should get the difficult stuff done first and quickly.

If Labour are serious about their growth mantra, it will be so much hot air if they don't make immediate overtures in relation to joining a customs union. The EU negotiators were utterly exasperated with the antics of the Tories. Starmer will have no better opportunity to engage with the EU than the coming months.
That'll be the EU that's lurching massively to the far Right as we speak. Probably not the best timing for that discussion (much as I wish it would work).
