Any one else noticed that the "cheese eating surrender monkeys" seem to be showing how pirates should be dealt with while apparently the US navy with the help of the FBI negotiators seems to shy of engaging and is considering letting village elders take the pirates safely home?

That is the way it should be done. Although I would rather all 5 pirates were killed. Nowt better than massacre as a deterrent, the Americans negotiating will only encourage more pirates...

Good stuff but there is absolutely no point in capturing them

"Two pirates were killed in the operation and three were captured, "

those 3 can't be tried in Somalia so usualy countries do deals with neighboring African countries for them to prosecute and jail.
Typicaly they are out before you can say guilty as these countries don;t want them there either.

Back to piracy in 6 months.

Oh dear...

The couple had refurbished the Tanit, a 12.5m (41ft) boat, and given up jobs in a bid to escape consumer society and navigate a route along the African coast to Zanzibar.

Speaking to French newspaper Ouest France, Mr Lemacon said they wanted to change their priorities in life.

"We don't want our child to receive the sort of education that the government is concocting for us.

Looks like he got first hand education of Africa, bet thats not what they were expecting. After all teh goveremnt warning them well they just lie don't they.

Since when has one hostage dead been no casualties? Not that I disagree with the French, good on them for standing up to the scum. The Amercans may not be doing much but that's better than what the British would do which is no doubt offer them asylum and let them live in Woolwich with the rest of the no good thieving lazy bds.

A pirate's life is a wonderful life etc.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7650415.st...

Not bad work if you think about it, $2 million per ship split between 64 men = $31,250each for a couple of months of sitting about and the money would go much further in a country like Somalia.

dont be silly

Oh wait

THE Royal Navy, once the scourge of brigands on the high seas, has been told by the Foreign Office not to detain pirates because doing so may breach their human rights.

Warships patrolling pirate-infested waters, such as those off Somalia, have been warned that there is also a risk that captured pirates could claim asylum in Britain.

The Foreign Office has advised that pirates sent back to Somalia could have their human rights breached because, under Islamic law, they face beheading for murder or having a hand chopped off for theft.

Have you noticed that I specifically chose "the Lounge" to post this and it was removed. Moderation gone mad - bring back the old format please.

They can't claim asylum if they're dead.

I know it's a simple solution. Probably been overlooked in the rush to think of their human rights though rolleyes

They hostage that died on the 3rd French rescue (there was one earlier in the year) was a bit of a plonker if you ask me. Private boat, family aboard, warning from French Destroyer to avoid pirate areas, comments on his blog that it was dangerous and yet he just ploughed on. Very bad choice.

As you wished: Navy SEALS rescued the Captain and killed all pirates. ETA: My mistake; one was wounded and taken into custody, the rest were killed.

The Americans did a better job than the French. No matter how much of a tit the dead Frenchman was, his three year old son is now without a father. That was avoidable.

It's a huge embarrassment that the French and Americans can take these pirates out, yet we know we'd just give them a flat in Southwark without even trying to use force.

HMS Once-Proud: Please give back our boat/sailors, and we'll fly you back business class to London, give you a flat and enough benefits so you won't have to work for the rest of your lives.
Somali Pirates: Hmmmm, seems like a good deal...

They have been taken out. Are you referring to it taking too long?
