Can't see what the fuss is with this latest twist.

Sometimes the lack of rational thought within the general population troubles me greatly!
maybe the lack of rational thought lies on the side of those who would have child-torturing murderers set free.

Some people are just born bad I am afraid, and this kid is one of them.

I remember reeling at the detail of what happened to poor James, I had no idea when it happened as I was young, but in recent times have watched and read evidence from the case and what they did to this poor kid was simply horrible.

Venables is just missing something and should clearly be institutionalised.

Hasn't Thompson kept under the radar and got on with his life with no subsequent issues or problems?

I'm all for rehabilitation but there are some things that there's no coming back from. I personally feel what those kids did, even though they were kids was deserving of being locked up forever.

I find it difficult to think of any sadistic child killers any differently to be honest.

Yes, looks like he’s exceeded expectations.

What was Venables and Thompson's upbringing like? Anyone know of any good articles that detail that?

He came out as gay and lives with a guy who knows fully his identity and background.

The copper who brought the two of them in at the time said they were 'both' evil. He still thinks that.
And thought at the time Thompson was the ringleader, although both attacked the poor little kid.

A top psychiatrist 'expert' at the time said Venables release posed a risk so small he used the word 'trivial'.
But it was Venables who ended up back inside.
And back in the news again!

Regardless, the little should still be locked up in my book.

It's well documented that Thompson's dad left the family home some years before Jamie's murder - leaving left his mum in turmoil and turning to drinking and having depression, and it is alleged tried to take her own life with an overdose.
Thompson had no history whatsoever of violence prior to the murder.

He has apparently kept on the right side of the law and achieved quite a bit, taking exams and passing them etc.

Asides, they are both murderers, reformed or not.

If you want something other than articles, then read the book about James Bulger by his dad. It will make you weep!

How do the authorities go about changing someone's identity?

As a parent of a little boy who is currently of similar age as Jamie was I find it very difficult reading anything about this topic.

Just reading this thread starts to upset me. I never used to feel like this, so it must be due to it all being more relateable I guess.

It really wouldn't surprise me to read one-day that Jamie's dad, or other family members have caught up with either of those two.

If people don't know the full details of how they murdered young James then I suggest you don't bother because its the stuff of nightmares.
How anyone thought these two could be brought back into society and live normal lives must be completely utterly deluded.
I wonder how James family manage to cope with this and to only find out hours before it went to the press is a pretty disgusting lapse by the probation service.
Lock him up and throw away the key.

I was a Merseyside ACF instructor at the time of the Bulger murder. I had only been out of the RMP for a couple of months, my Det Comd was a police sergeant. he told me what the evil bds did to that little boy, it was horrific.

Twitter last night was offering up pictures of someone that, is claimed, is Venables as he looks now. Not going to link it, but if his cover has been blown again, how can he ever live a normal life?

ETA - I don't think they should ever have been released!

and how deep would the police have to look to find out who it really was ? say he's pulled up for speeding or a bit of shop lifting , do they know or is hidden well?

I was two or three years old when James Bulger was murdered. I didn’t know a great deal about it until last year when I looked the story up on Wiki after seeing his mum on TV. I always heard about it but didn’t know exactly what had happened.

I remember quite awkwardly reading the story, putting the iPad down, then hugging my son as tight as I could. Then I cried, because I could not believe what I had just read. It’s one thing murdering someone - but the things they did were just evil. Then add to that the fact he was two years old.

My son is two years old and I just cannot imagine the pain little James endured, and the pain his family continue to endure. I used to wonder what I’d say if I ever met his mum or dad, not that I would. I’m an articulate guy, but I wouldn’t even know where to start. Still to this day I haven’t a clue what I’d say.

This is now the third time Venables has been locked up for crimes against children, of various severity. When will someone say enough is enough? When will the safety of the general public, and children, come before this absolute monster?

All the money, time and effort spent “rehabilitating” him. For what?

Not sure how reliable it is but I've seen on my social media he was arrested local to me and it included a recent photo along with which prison he was being held in.

Unsure how I feel about that to be honest (if it's even at all true), I didn't go looking for it but there it is. Presumably anyone caught sharing it could be in serious trouble.
