MMR Doctor struck off

Why not just test a load of healthy and autistic kids for the stuff thats in these vacines and compare, simples?
They have. They've looked at thousands of kids who've had MMR and thousands that haven't and autism rates in both groups are the same.Medical science doesn't have all the answers but when someone comes along claiming a link between x and y then that theory is tested. In the case of MMR and autism that theory has been found to be incorrect.

The first step would be to see if there was any statistical link between MMR and autism. That has been done. There is no link. There is no grounds for going speculatively looking for a mechanism when there is no evidence of any effect. http://www.medicine.ox.ac.uk/bandolier/booth/Vacci...

I just find it bemusing some children are born, a year or so later they develop autism and with all our medical advances we don't know what is the cause.
The human body doesn't just start and carry on functioning normally with no 'mistakes' up to the point when you die you know. We go through a whole host of changes at various stages and things can and do go wrong. st happens. Cancer, alzeheimers, parkinsons, learning difficulties, abnormal intelligence, autism... there doesn't have to be some external cause for your body to get it wrong and deviate from the norm. It's a miracle it holds together for as long as it does - it's only designed to get us as far as reproducing, so anything past your mid twenties is dumb luck.
Children only start really interacting in way that makes autism identifiable when they reach two or three (or older). It's quite probable that they're born with autistic traits, but how do you spot symptoms such as an obsession with numbers in a baby who hasn't yet learned to reach their toes?
We're obsessed with identifying causes - we live in a 'where there's a claim, there's blame' society - but sometimes random stuff happens.
It seems to me that Wakefield discovered a 'cause' that got him a lot of money and attention. He stepped beyond his ability to perform ethical and robust science in order to chase that. In recent interviews he's still claiming he was 'right all along', but as no-one else can reproduce his results, he's heading for the conspiracy theory end of the interwebs rather than advancing medical science.

As a father of an autistic child this guy caused me, for some years, to blame myself for allowing my son to have the MMR jab.
What symptoms does your son have that led him to be diagnosed as autistic? How does that impact your life compared to the parent of a non-autistic child? His speech developed to the single word stage and has pretty much stayed the same since. Physically he was and still is absolutely normal and he is now as tall as me and growing like bamboo.
Then there is the obsession with food where he went for something like 5 years eating nothing but marmite on toast, something which has now stopped and his diet is quite varied. But still obsessive ~ breakfast currently is 2 pots of strawberry yoghurt, a packet of cheese and onion crisps, a pot of raspberry jelly and a bar of chocolate.
Worse is the challenging behaviour, he has no fear of anything and never has had so the house and garden is like Fort Knox. You cannot leave him alone for a minute, for instance we live near the sea and he loves a walk along the beach. One day he decided to walk into the sea and just kept going, fully clothed, halfway to France with the water up to his neck before I caught up. He can be violent and has been banned from various things like the school bus, youth clubs etc and will bang his head against anything close by when angry. As a toddler he would fill his nappy during the night and then spread the contents all over his bed, the walls, the carpet.
These are just a few examples of what my family has gone through for the last dozen or so years and its quite painful recalling some of it. Our social life stopped dead as no babysitter would come near us, my daughter who is 2 years older and perfectly normal, has some serious physcological problems with what she has endured throughout her childhood. Mrs H67 has come close on several occasions to a nervous breakdown. I used to sit at work dreading the next phone call from home. It got so unbearable that 3 years ago we threw in the towel and now he lives with a full time foster couple and we have him home at weekends and one evening a week and during the school holidays.
What kills me is that I had it all, the perfect family unit, for about a year. All my hopes and dreams come true and then I lost it to autism. No-one knows what caused it, no-one knows what the future holds. Never will I teach him to bowl inswing, take him to Upton Park, share my cars with him or take him down the pub.
So yeah I`d say that impacts my life.
Bloody hell H67 that's a sobering post. My 18 month old is asleep in the room next to my office right now, and he's a happy, healthy, sociable little boy. I can not imagine what you have gone through and what you are going through, to have your family unit rent apart from you like that. My little lad is the center of my universe, and I'm sure your (not so) little lad is the center of yours.
I'm not sure what to say, other than point out how strong your family must be to have coped for 12 years!
What is certainly true is that the only effect that the MMR jab had on your little boy is to protect him against 3 serious infectious diseases, nothing more.

Did your Doctor send him to a speech pathologist or any other remedial learning facility?
Did your doctor check for vaccination preservative sensitivity e.g. residual thimerosol levels?
Does his behaviour seem more regulated when he eats plain vegetables & meat?
Thanks.

We`ve had speech therapy but his inability to either understand or comply with the program renders it pretty much useless. He will only engage on his terms when and if it suits him. He attends a special school for children with all kinds of disabilities which is an amazing place and he loves it. The staff are absolute diamonds, how they do it is beyond me. Getting him there was a real battle with the authorities,a battle we didn`t need. At one time we found a school which was specifically for autistic children ~ all we needed was £100K a year to fund it.
Again food is down to what he wants, when he wants it. Any attempt at regulation results in behaviour similar to above.
When he was diagnosed we were initally relieved at having an explanation for his behaviour and we were going to change the world and everything would be fine. At that time we had no inkling what autism meant or what we were in for. 10 years later we are dead in the water, burnt out, fully aware of the condition, powerless to do anything but cope day to day as best we can.

I'm genunely gobsmacked they are still trying to say there is a link? How many bloody times has it been irrefutably publicly confirmed now that there is no link? It was in the news not long ago in relation to all the measles outbreaks caused by kids not being vaccinated during the scares

thats what I was wondering.... having done some more reading on that site, it seems very much to be an "OMG all drugs companies are in an evil conspiracy to poison us, and we must all turn to alternative medicine and take up smoking weed" kind of hippy bks site
Unfortunately we have a new generation of Earth Mothers who believe they know more than anyone else. The trouble is that vaccinations have reduced the risk so much that they don't see the danger of these life threatening diseases anymore. airbrakes said:
