Jones has called off his bonfire. Claims that he won't do it if they don't build the mosque in NY at ground zero.

Fortunately it's planned for a couple of blocks away so that's a done deal.

But well done to him for having the balls.
But he's a fanatic himself? So you're congratulation one fanatic over another set of fanatics.
This is the weird thing about this. We see Pastor Jones, and recognise as a minority fanatical nutjob. But then we see the pics on the news and elsewhere, of a group of muslim gentlmen burning something and jump to the conclusion all Muslims are like that. Pastor Jones, the flag burning idiots, the Taliban, al-queda, the IRA et-al are all cut from the same nutjob cloth and their worldwide number are a fraction of a percent.

I know loads of Christians, none of them are like Pastor Jones. I know a decent number of Muslims too, none of them are like OBL or even the flag burning idiots.

Conclusion, the people we see on the news are just the idiots. There's always idiots, don't judge a whole load of people because of the idiots. I would say this to anyone as well, on both sides and worldwide in fact.

I dont see the ground zero people caving in so easily - not when it sounds like the place has been there for years and they must have been planning it for a long time etc.

if they can hold him off til after tomorrow i think the impetus will be gone anyway.

What angry, violent people. Over nothing more than a threat by one bloke. This is a tantrum worthy of Fernando Alonso.

What pisses me off is that attacks against Christians goes largely unreported in the UK - bible burning and the desectration of Christian icons, buildings and the persecution of followers is common:

I think the difference is there a whole load of idiots and not just a tiny minority as there are in this country.

I think its very easy to say ignore it they are just idiots, but these idiots seem to be able to dictate to the rest of normal population.

I just don't think we care enough that's all. I do worry about what extremists might do next though. It may actually prompt another terror attack. For something that has now been called off they sure are overreacting.

I think this whole thing would have sat better with me if the universal condemnation of the Pastor was out of a genuine religious sensitivity, and not an overwhelming, pants-stting fear of Muslim backlash. If this whole experience has taught anyone anything it's that if other religious groups want their sensitivities respected they better get violent every now and again.

I wouldn't worry unless you live in America. All the flag burning and angry demonstrations are against the USA I know the UK and USA are great buddies but the hatred is firmly against the USA.

Myself being an Arab, Muslim, middle eastern, whatever, to answer the question about burning bibles in our part of the world, do that and you could face serious jail time and a good beating. Although there are some differences between the bible and the Quran, it is still a sacred book to Muslims and anything to do with burning a bible or vandalising a church is a serious crime. I don't think many realise there are other religions in the Arab world besides Islam. There are lots of Arab Christians and a small population of Arab Jews. The Muslim view of the torah and bible are "those are god's words". Burn them and face the consequences.

Much as you probably don't like to be told this, if those guys are british, they are being protected by their police too. wink

You really need to raise your game instead of flinging all these emotional hyperbole about, as at the moment it just seems like you see it as "us and them" them being muslims.

Can I ask your religious beliefs?

If they are British, then it's just another way in which this country is going down the stter. Do that kind of protesting in quwait and you'll get shot.
