Buses to Blame for High Streets' Poor Air Quality
Buses have been found to be the major source of nitrogen oxide emissions in a busy London high street despite only making up 10% of traffic.
The London Borough of Wandsworth commissioned TRL to study the sources of emissions in Putney High Street where nitrogen dioxide concentrations are currently far in excess of the annual and hourly mean air quality strategy objectives.
TRL concluded that buses contribute over two-thirds of NOx and 21% of particulate emissions in the high street despite making up just 10% of vehicle flow.

All that NOx, surely there should be no snow by now

So let me just make sure I am understanding this correct;
They are spending 33million in order to save the council less than 1000 a year for the next 25 years?
Well this is the same council that are spending 28million on new council offices to save 280k a year. They are spending 33million in order to save the council less than 1000 a year for the next 25 years?
The public sector, ladies and gentlemen.
That picture shows exactly how I think our windmills will end up once the subsidies dry up, and nobody takes responsibility for them - with just ugly towering rusty pylons littering the landscape..

A breathtaking sight awaits those who travel to the southernmost tip of Hawaiis stunningly beautiful Big Island, though its not in any guidebook. On a 100-acre site, where cattle wander past broken Keep Out signs, stand the rusting skeletons of scores of wind turbines.
Just a short walk from where endangered monk seals and Hawksbill turtles can be found on an unspoilt sandy beach, a technology that is supposed to be about saving the environment is instead ruining it.
In other parts of the U.S., working wind turbines are killing hundreds of thousands of birds and bats each year, but here the wildlife can perch on the motionless steel blades.
If any spot was tailor-made for a wind farm it would surely be here. The gales are so strong and relentless on the tip of South Point that trees grow almost horizontally.
Yet the 27-year-old Kamaoa Wind Farm remains a relic of the boom and inglorious bust of Americas so-called wind rush, the worlds first major experiment in wind energy.
At a time when the EU and the British Government are fully paid-up evangelists for wind power, the lesson from America and the ghostly hulks on this far-flung coast should be a warning of their folly.

Data abuse is worse than we previously thought
CRU survive climategate I and II so now think they are untouchable - hence alter historical record to produce this hysterical "worse than previously thought" . Seriously? Making 2010 warmer than 1998? They do know the satellite record covers this period don't they?

Between 1998 and 2010, temperatures rose by 0.11C, 0.04C more than previously estimated.
It is truly inspiring to see that the Met Office is now able to measure planetary temperature fluctuations to two decimal places. No doubt, when they get their new Super computer, they'll be even more accurate. It makes me proud to be a tax payer.

It is amazing accuracy yes.No doubt, when they get their new Super computer, they'll be even more accurate. It makes me proud to be a tax payer.
This morning I looked at frost on the grass and a completely white frost covered shed roof. The thermometer said -0.5C
I looked at the BBC, they told me it was +2C.
And - and that we're all going to die from Global Warming.

They are probably a bit confused. You know these solar cells popping up everywhere?
The subsidised solar cells?
Subsidised by taxpayers?
Well people in council houses are now enjoying free electricity too now, I found out from a mate who lives in one.
I'm such a stupid idiot for getting a job and paying tax.
God I feel so dumb.

The cost of Nuclear is always based on some nominal back of the fag packet calculation about 'clearup' costs at end of life. Like so many things far into the future the cost can be made to fit the projections and presumably have a good fudge factor for inflation.
I have never have never ever seen a similar calculation for disturbine 'End of life'. Nor have I heard of any contracts that claim to have a 'cleanup' clause setting out who pays for what. I very much doubt there is anything like that in the contracts. Wouldn't it be great to use one of those retroactive contract terms tricks that government foists on people from time to time to make the original developers cough up for re-instatement come the 'end of life' removal?

It's amazing what you can get graphs to show if you add a little fiddle factor...

I've seen at least 5-6 properties on the local estate that have shiny new solar panels. More money for fags and booze! You know these solar cells popping up everywhere?

Phil Jones must have been pretty pissed off at having to admit to there being 'no warming' in the last 10 or so years.CRU survive climategate I and II so now think they are untouchable - hence alter historical record to produce this hysterical "worse than previously thought" . And so, we now have a new method for measuring global temps, which shows 'the warming'.
So transparent...
More Beebistry here.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-1743...
Guess we need to recamp to the science thread to discuss (again) the flaws in measuring global temps which are still so open to abuse (and seem to be dependent upon who your paymaster is)
