Is it their fraud department rejecting transactions? We had an issue with the daily limit on the number of transactions, I can't remember the exact number but it wasn't that high, we had them increase the daily limit. I've been able to pay the deposits on my cars and other transactions of similar size without a problem when using Nationwide.

I haven't had a transaction declined in 5 years even for some chunky car payments I'm obviously not with Nationwide. I'd change pronto.

It appears to be a mix of their fraud department and a unspecified issue with the Verified by Visa system that declines transactions without even notifying the bank (or so they say). I don't put that many (debit card) transactions through the account as most are on my Amex, it's only usually used for instances where Amex is not accepted, or is but at a surcharge or when not appropriate to use the charge card (e.g. movement of funds).

It is increasingly annoying.
I use a similar combination to you (AMEX and Nationwide). Sounds like it is online transactions you are having issues with? I believe you can opt-out of the 'verifed by visa' scheme which may help?

HSBC advance (and normal before). I've never had a transaction declined, including using cards abroad and often buying from websites in dollars/euros. Some large transactions as well.

Like others I use Nationwide and don't have any 'real world' issues. The 'verified by visa' can be fickle depending on browser privacy settings. I sometimes have problems with it in Chrome as I run with cookies disabled, so have to go through the whole process again in safari with no privacy settings (as I never use it) and it invariably goes through no problem.

You'll also have a problem if you run a VPN.

I've had many issues with Visa, usually on larger transactions. I bank with Natwest. I was told that Visa have a limit of ~<£2k on a single transaction in a day.
It turned out this was more to do with Natwest than Visa as I got texts from Natwest later asking if I had authorised them. Great, but I've already embarrassed myself 3 times.

This, been with Nationwide since 1997, found them to be great & never had an issue. Even when I travel all over the place & use the card.

i'm with Nationwide and don't have a problem with the Visa Debit Card but my Nationwide Visa Credit Card is rejected EVERY time by Verified by Visa when trying do carry out an online transaction it always works OK in fuel station machines and supermarket machines etc.

Thanks for the tip about VPN as my connection does use one so next time I'll try without the VPN and see if it makes a difference.

Do you use the card reader option for online banking? I've not had problem using that.
