Hello

I recently sold something online and the buyer paid with bank transfer. I accurately described the items and he is now calling me back all the time. I've just ignored the calls.

I have no intention of speaking to him and wondered if there was a way he could reserve the payment ? I don't want to be out of pocket or anything,

Yes.

Anyway, Why don't you want to speak to him?

He texts and phones me all the time. He is claiming the item I sold wasn't as described. It was accurate and I think he trying it on. I don't want them back - sold as seen. It was £70 worth.

He can't get the £70 back off you, might be able to (unlikely) through his bank but in the words of Jim Bowen "Yer money's safe"

Cue people disagreeing but there you go.

End of thread.

I was always under the impression that BACS / CHAPS cant be reversed easily.

As for getting his £70 back off you his best bet is money claim online so expect something in the post!

Bank Transfers can't be reversed. I have asked my bank about this in the past and they guaranteed that once the money has left your account there is nothing they can do.

CHAPS can't.

You can do a BACS recall in the window between you submitting the BACS file and the bank's cutoff date, but that would happen before the money leaves the payer's account and hits the Payee account.

But correct me if I am wrong but most personal banks for normal customers don't allow you to submit BACS batch files?

You can't, that's why scammers on loads of forums get the money for non-existent or stolen goods that way.

That's true but you were asking about both CHAPS and BACS in your question smile

Salary payments CAN be reversed in certain circumstances

Not once they've hit your account, they can't.

If you need to recall a payment after the various cutoff times the sending bank will tell you to contact the receiving bank. The receiving bank may be inclined to write to the recipient asking for their authorisation to repay.

Ok, every day's a school day....so can you tell me how you would reverse (recall) a payment that's already in the payee's account?
