I have been looking around for a new car for a while and think I am decided on a TTRS. I will be spending approx. £20k on a manual 60/11 plate.

Can anybody highlight any issues to look out for, or more importantly why not to buy one.

I was inclined to buy an RS3, but don't think I can handle twitching my curtains every 5 minutes at the slightest noise.

Thanks in advance for an info/advice.

The biggest one is the chocolate propshaft (I will this mainly affects modified ones) apart from that they're a good car my mate had his (heavily upgraded one) for three years with no issue & when he finally replaced it, it was for the RS3 (a little addition was the reason for this) which he parks on the street & he sleeps just fine.

Thanks for that info. The only problems ive really read about is the brakes, but I'll take the prop shaft into consideration.

Unfortunately I live about 5 miles from Bradford and the rs3/s3 seem to be hot property, hence me shying away from them

Buy a DSG, I've just got one came from an MK2 Focus RS and the TT is savagely fast with this gearbox. It's an APR stage 1 and I keep asking myself why I ever bothered with other cars.

What’s wrong with your curtains?

Probably nothing. The RS3 is a touch more likely to disappear for a bit of bank or post office job excitement/ spare part tour of.... than the TTRS

Yes, the bank robbers car of choice. I’d go for TTRS, they did a plus version that’s quick

Exactly this. Been close to Bradford the rs3 is higher on the shopping list compared to the ttrs... Well that's my thoughts anyway

They're probably not wrong thoughts. Whatever the last 0-10% of wrong is with the mags reviewers, I'd happily enough take a Golf R or much better still a 5cyl car, but I just don't want the potential hassle, real or otherwise. There's something about 5s, but not worth the hassle that seems a bit too common now, or maybe anything quick with 4wd or similar.

TT-RS removes the majority of that.
