Ok, thinking of booking Dubrovnik for mid next year. Probably for a week and we'll tour around a bit from it.

Anyone any recommendations on whens the best month to go? Flexible with July, Aug, September.

Anyone have any recommendations for an apartment - thinking AirBnB or an Aparthotel via expedia or similar?

Or best location within Dubrovnik?

July and August will be busy. I'd book early or mid September.

And crushingly hot too. Chances are it'll be nudging 40's with potential for epic thunderstorms over the coastal mountain range at night.

We go sailing in Croatia around last couple of weeks in May to mid June and the weather is cooler then and the coast resorts although they are pretty busy aren't at full stretch. The bay of Kotor and Kotor town to the south in Montenegro is close enough for a day out and is really pretty and north there's Split and Trogir. Drive round Kotor bay through the town then shortcut and take the ferry back across. Get everywhere early before all the coach parties rock up and the place gets rammed. You'll need to tell your car hire people you're crossing the border if you go to Kotor and be prepared for a delay either way. The Kaka park further up the coast in Croatia is a bit of a mission from Dubrovnik but if you're up for the long drive it's really worth a whole day too.

Check out exchange rates everywhere before you buy Kuna. There has been a big difference in Sterling rates in the past and we've found the best value is often from banks in Croatia.

Enjoy Croatia while it lasts IMO. Prices are rocketing, building is going on in a big way and everywhere is expanding and it's becoming more and more popular with Russians who are mostly a complete and utter PITA.

Just got back from a 10 day trip from Dubrovnik to Venice. It was fantastic and I recon we got lucky with the dates. Weather was still warm enough for me(some may like it hotter) and not too busy aside for the old town at Dubrovnik.

I loved the whole trip, Dubrovnik, Split, Plitvička Jezera national park, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Bled and then on to Venice to fly home.
