HMRC couldn't give a monkey's as to who submits the return so if you want to do it yourself, by all means do so.

However, it might be a bit of good manners to let the accountant know that you won't be making use of their services for tax year 2017/18.

It really annoys me when I a client decides to not use me but never bothers to let me know.

I’ll tell her, obviously, but just wanted to know if there was any official declaration required to HMRC.

I can fill it in as soon as April 6th comes round, I would imagine.

No, no official declaration required.

If you let the accountant know what you have done or plan to do, the accountant can remove themselves as "agent" with HMRC and can cross your tax return of their "to do" list.
