Seems simple enough. We are currently in the process of purchasing a new house so do not have any more money spare.

I have been advised though not to apply for any finance products until we have completed on our mortgage.

We have our offer lodged with the solicitor all signed off but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

I'd also rather not sit on deck chairs but I can wait if required hehe

Edit: I'm not worried about the sofa depreciating etc but am quite happy to stick it on 6 months 0%

Have a look on freecycle in the local area.

It's not all stained and flea infested - and might get you something that will 'do' for the very short term

Seriously, have a look in charity shops such as British Heart Foundation, they have some cracking suites in, (Not scruffy old tat, some are like brand new) for around £100 to £150 that would be well over £1000 new.

Usually they are steam cleaned before being put on display, but you can get somebody to do this for you for around £25 anyway.

Same with furniture for anyone setting up home for the first time.

Why tie yourself up with debt for four years?

Nothing wrong with 0% finance if you were going to buy that item at the same price for cash anyway. As inflation is a thing, the item will work out cheaper that way anyway, and you can keep your cash available.

That said, I agree not to start applying for random finance products until your mortgage is complete.

As above, avoid any new finance or credit until mortgage has been released.

Yeah this, also don't sign for any furniture/fixtures and fittings until you've exchanged..... (although you probably knew this)

Do you need to decide now or can you sit on it for a while?

Used sofas are pretty much worthless, if you watch the local Facebook groups you'll probably get a barely used one 10% of the new price, B&Q van hire for an hour, job done

I needed a new sofa recently, had a look on Sphock .

Found a sofa 3 months old that fitted my needs. Paid £85.00 and have the receipt for £1250.00 given to me.
They needed to sell ASAP as they were moving house and it would not fit the new house
They even delivered, admittedly it was only a 100 yards!

I sat on an inflatable armchair for a few weeks when I bought my house under the same circumstances as you.

Indeed, I have no hesitation the deal will be the same but it is 7 weeks without a delivery that I am trying to avoid.

I made do with a couple of garden chairs when I first moved in.

In fact because I now had a driveway I went straight out and bought a TVR before I bought a sofa. The seats are surprisingly comfortable in one of those!

Finally found a really good sofa on Gumtree a month after moving in, similar to the post above they were moving house and couldn't take it with them and so I got it for peanuts despite it only being 6 months old.

[disclaimer] I was single at the time of my house purchase and therefore my immediate priorities might not be representative of your own [/disclaimer]

hehe

Yes I have been there and done the garden lounger for 12 weeks before which is why i’m not so keen on doing it again. In fact I already have a sofa that doesn’t match, i’m just keen to get the good stuff in.

A tvr won’t fit in the garage. Not with all the other toys I intend on putting in there!

Technically you should be safe in exchange, very difficult for it to fall through then (but not unheard of), safest is completion but may not have it delivered for a week or 2 = nothing to sit on.

Separately I got my sofa second hand when I moved into my first flat 4 years ago for £250 (big modular leather corner), still going strong
