Thanks chap, exchange or complete though?
Technically you should be safe in exchange, very difficult for it to fall through then (but not unheard of), safest is completion but may not have it delivered for a week or 2 = nothing to sit on.

Separately I got my sofa second hand when I moved into my first flat 4 years ago for £250 (big modular leather corner), still going strong
Thought so much. Lead time is 7 weeks though. I guess i’ll wait.

Nothing wrong with 0% finance if you were going to buy that item at the same price for cash anyway. As inflation is a thing, the item will work out cheaper that way anyway, and you can keep your cash available.
In theory.

In practice the sofa company just loads the interest onto the price, plus a bit more since the sort of people who typically buy from interest free furniture shops won't look any further than the monthly amount.

Of course you're correct, but if buying that item from that shop anyway then finance costs less than cash over the long term. You can negotiate the price before discussing payment terms.

Of course but seeing as I can't buy the sofa anywhere else what would you suggest?

Seriously, have a look in charity shops such as British Heart Foundation, they have some cracking suites in, (Not scruffy old tat, some are like brand new) for around £100 to £150 that would be well over £1000 new.

Usually they are steam cleaned before being put on display, but you can get somebody to do this for you for around £25 anyway.

Same with furniture for anyone setting up home for the first time.

Why tie yourself up with debt for four years?
Great advice, we had three BHF furniture shops in reach and got something from each one; Tables, chairs, sofa etc. Even if I moved into a new place and had £10k in my bank account I'd tap these shops first. There are some serious bargains to be had.

Plus an older sofa is likely to be built to a much higher standard.

You tell a fair bit by testing the weight. If you can lift the shed sofa easily it's probably worth about as much as the first payment. (IMHO)

Do you need to decide now or can you sit on it for a while?
Sofa, this is the best advice.
Excellent puns. Would read again.
