Looking for some advice with regards to company purchase of a Land Rover Defender Utility, and whether it would qualify for BIK tax for a van or a car?

So, from what I can gather it will need to 1 ton payload to qualify, according to the HMRC website they define payload as gross minus kerb weight.

The newest brochure I can find states a payload of 986 KG, however, Land Rovers definition of kerb weight includes 75 KG for a driver, so I assume I can remove that which then gives a payload of 1061 KG.

Is there anyone on here that's been through this already, even more confusing is that different government sites give differing definitions of how to measure payload, one uses unladen weight, the other gives kerbside..

Or, should all kombi/utility type vans now be avoided, and only focus on double cab pick ups?

My accountant tells me I'm OK as it has more than 1000 KG payload and no windows behind the seats.

Unless anyone else knows otherwise?

My business partner (who as part of his work acts for taxpayers being investigated by hmrc) has told me that this is key - otherwise you won’t get a deduction in the corporation tax computation
