Have any GT R owners done trackdays in theirs and if so what noise level (db) is the GT R ?

Am looking to do a trackday but obviously many have low limits.

Will a GT R pass a db limit of 100db or do I need to look at a track with a limit of 102db or 105db ?

I've done plenty of days in my car now.

No issues at all with any of them, car sounds louder inside than it really is.

Standard 105/92 MSV days seem fine, I sometimes get a warning at static test but no black flags so far. I haven't run it at Brands or Bedford and both are very strict.

If you do book let me know, would be great to see some more GTRs on track.

I doubt you’ll get on to brands hatch. I just about got away with my 4.0 C63 on GP circuit event. They seem to be wised up on the drives modes and exhaust button and they had a stty attitude too.

Thread revival.

Has anyone else had any experience of track day noise limits?

I notice that the early GT and GTs cars are now becoming affordable and I fancy one as my next track day toy, but I need to be able to get it on everywhere.

The answer is still the same!

P.s think we've talked M3s over on cutters. You'll have no bother at all.

Thanks 360. Did you manage to get on Brands or Bedford yet? Bedford is my local, annoyingly, so it would be handy to get on it for the occasional evening session.

It’s entirely possible we did speak as I’m active on cutters also. My E92 may be going, so I’m eyeing up replacements. The natural choice is an F8x, but I’ve always had a stiffy for the GT and I’m been keeping an eye on values for a while.

It ran at a day session ok. I don’t like Bedford so never been.

I’m not sure this car would be for you if I’m honest, it’s not something you can really fiddle with much!

I'm not gonna change much, and I shouldn't need to on these hopefully. I've been talking with RennTech and they suggest just brakes, springs, remap, and geo. I'd probably just fit the cage and bucket seats and leave it at that.

Brakes are not really the issue, its brake cooling. Tikt and renntech both do cooling ducts for the car. I don't have them as I'm not tracking my GTR any more since buying the Schirmer.

I wasn't fussed on the map, its supposed to give 660bhp which sounds great but then when you know that most cars rolling road about 625bhp its less impressive. Its not worth losing a warranty for 6% power increase.

I have done a couple of track days at Goodwood so far in my GT R. Each time the static noise test gave 90 decibels at 5,250 revs. This was a surprise to me as it sounds pretty loud in the car. Also there were no problems with drive by noise. With this level of noise you should be OK for most circuits.

I would add that the GT R is a real fun car to drive and speed wise it is up there with Porsche GT3s and GT3 RSs and some McLarens. Also, to drive, it feels like a smaller and more agile car. I look forward to meeting more GT Rs on track - to date I haven't seen another one on track, or on the road for that matter.

I should have mentioned that the noise tests are done in Comfort mode but track runs are in Race mode with the exhaust in its quiet setting.

My GTR has done 3 days at Goodwood.

It will get a black flag on the exit of the chicane if you're really pushing on and the noise guy is grumpy. Its a circuit that really suits the car as there's only one big braking point and the rest of the circuit rewards high speed stability.

I ran 1:24 in my GTR, which is only 6 seconds off the lap record not bad for a big fat road car on road tyres!

This is all very useful info Flyer and 360, thank you very much.

I'm looking at an early S model, they're around mid-60s.

I'd love an R, I'm just too poor, unless I sell my Caterham also...... idea

Delighted to read this. Taking mine to Oulton Park this week and was concerned.
Can’t wait to try it out.

good news, I'm also thinking about a GTR, although in NL with their high BPM/Co2 tax, I better wait 1 or 2 years, or at least that would be wise... since new the 2018 cars lost between 80 to 100k euro (NL), so almost 40-50k per year and although they will not take such big parts money, I guess they still loose another 20-30k euro the next year...they are then a bit more 'affordable'...

although you can sleep in your car, you can't drive your house idea

I’ve done Oulton Park and Cadwell with out any noise issues.

Cadwell felt pretty tight admittedly!
