Hi, I’m looking to set up a stocks and shared isa but like the idea of being able to buy and sell my own shares. What is the best company to set this up with?

Thanks

Why do you want to buy and sell your own shares - is it because you think you will outperform or dimply because you will have some enjoyment by doing so?

It depends.

The ISA is the wrapper and most ISA providers will let you hold stocks.

Look at trading fees and holding fees if applicable as that will very likely push you to/from a provider.

I used my bank, more for convenience than anything else. Bought Shell just before the referendum, very happy and good dividends too. My ex-IFA thought I was mad, but then, IFAs don't do shares. I expect he's writing slightly wrong essays on financial theory to other poor saps and generally causing mayhem.

I use Nutmeg and have it in their stocks and shares managed portfolio so I don't have to touch it. I set it up only very recently, 6th July and since then it's up 2.84% already in less than 2 weeks.

Movement over that time-frame is a poor benchmark. One part of my portfolio has moved ~5.6% so far this month - that hasn't made me think either more or less highly of it.

If you want to buy and sell shares (or funds) yourself then have a look at the ClubFinance Frequent Trader platform.

0% platform fee and £4.95 per trade. If you don't make 3 trades a quarter then you pay £15. So a flat £60 a year including 3 trades per quarter.

Of course, I'm fully aware I could be in negative by next week! I'm in it for the long haul anyway (5+ years)... I'm on the highest risk setting as well wobble
