Did I just hear that he's leaving his breakfast show? Good news if true.

Why is that good news? Chris Evans may have his faults but his breakfast show is really good and suits him perfectly. I think it's also the most listened-to radio show in the UK.

I don’t mind him on radio. It’s probably his best medium imgo.

Most listened to radio show in Europe. As he says himself, if half the people love you, and half the people hate you, you’ve probably got a huge success on your hands.

Cannot stand listening to him in the mornings, so I listen to Absolute radio instead.

May switch back to R2 once he's gone.

I always thought Chris Evans suited to the halcyon days of silent radio

Bets on replacement? I’d wager Zoe Ball. They could move Mayo but it’s an opportunity to address the D&I agenda they will need to be seen to have taken

What if Russell Brand replaced him. Still want to listen to R2? wink

It’s about the right time. I am frankly fed up with talk of “ankle biters”, Ping and Pong and his Mascara warnings. The show is too much about him and formulaic.

It is obviously going to be a woman, my vote would go to Sara Cox, but I guess it will be Zoe Ball.

I listened to it when he started but, in my view, it became more about him than the listener. I spent many years listening to the Breakfast Show in the car but latterly chose almost anything else.

Everything he does turns into the Chris Evans Show (ft. Sharlene Spiteri).

Please, please, PLEASE make it Mayo as his replacement.

Tell that to Alex Salmond.

Agreed Smollet
I love him on the radio, was never a fan of him on TV though

I like my early morning presenter to be fairly unobtrusive, so being assaulted by Evans, his crap and unfunny jingles, clown horns, tarzan cries etc, has meant either itchy teeth or a switch to Spotify.

You will probably snigger into your tea, but Vanessa Feltz is personally preferable as a replacement, especially if the prospect is the pointless, talentless Zoe Ball.

Sara Cox is OK though in a nice throwback to the halcyon 90s days of Mark and Lard, though I suspect her chat may be more about HRT therapy these days than any laddish antics.

In an era of streaming services what's the justifications for DJs?

Evans aside, I don't mind a bit of talking / current affairs and whatnot on the radio.

My vote would be Sara Cox, partly because I really like her, and partly because I remember the chaos of her R1 breakfast show.

Why is that in any way surprising given the blanket coverage of Radios 1 and 2? Certainly doesn't mean he's any good.

Grimmy killed the Radio 1 Breakfast Show meaning more listeners for Evans.

Rightly or wrongly some people like a bit of inane chatter on their radio. I personally quite like some of the 6 music shows as some of the DJs have generally interesting anecdotes, interviews and live sessions, they also seem to let their DJs control their playlists so you know what kind of music you're getting depending on the DJ. It just gives a bit of variety which i like if i've got a long day of driving or DIYing ahead of me.

The best thing about modern tech is that i'm only ever one button click away from switching back to my phone which is usually on apple music without any DJs if i just want back to back music. I can deal with Chris Evans for about 20 minutes on my current 1hr 20 morning commute and usually turn on around ten to 8 to get a bit of chatter, the news and traffic and then switch back to my own music.

There are more god awful DJs than there are good ones though, anybody who enjoys Chris Moyles needs their ears/brain checking IMO (bring back the old XFM!).
