I'll be able to compare soon. I'm going to upgrade my iPhone 6S with the new Xs and my work device is getting replaced with a Samsung Galaxy S9. I handed my old S7 work phone back and changed it to an iPhone SE but we're no longer offering Apple at work. The S7 was awful to use.

I don't care how comparable the cameras are or processing power, when all is said and done, the Android OS just isn't intuitive or particularly nice to use. I remember getting my first apple device, a 4S and getting to grips with it in minutes without having to read up or know anything about the iOS ecosystem. I also remember trying to sort my Uncles Samsung tablet out and spending about 5 minutes trying to get back to the home screen before calling in the experts (my teenage son).

You do know you are wrong and that there's a back button in the top left corner?
You need to compare apples with apples hehehehe

I think the connection is California.

I fully accept that Apple are never at the forefront of technology, personally I'd rather have a reliable piece of tech than the most up and coming tech.
Apple are at the forefront of mobile (ARM) chip design. The most important part of their mobile devices that increasingly gives them an edge over the competition.
I read somewhere that the 2017 iPhone X is still faster than all 2018 Android phones released to date.
I think thats always been the case and remains so
Also importantly I'm pretty sure (haven't looked closely recently) Apple will be achieving that with less power consumption. Also the software has less overhead.

Surely the "how difficult it is to use" is mostly related to what you're used to? I haven't used much Apple stuff, and to me it's a pain in the ass and not very intuitive. It's just because I've never taken the time to bother learning it, as I prefer the flexibility with other systems, rather than doing things the "Apple" way.

With an unknown branding it could be any Chinese import so £200-300 at a guess.
With Samsung or Sony on it the same as their current flagships.

Anyone with any sense knows you're paying for the name
You're paying for more than the name. You're paying for the elegance of iOS which only Apple has, and you're paying for the seamless integration of data between their Cloud and all the other Apple products you own. Anything you do on one device will be shared via the Apple Cloud with another without you lifting a finger.

You are paying for not having to install endless security updates a la Android. You are also paying for years-old products being supported by iOS. The 5S I bought in 2013 is now used as a wifi hot spot when traveling and it now runs the same OS as the new XS.

The real secret of Apple is that it has never licensed its software and thus controls the entire experience.

I must admit that for quite some years now I simply haven’t needed any of the new features or enhancements that smartphones keep offering.

I run my business via the iPhone but have been able to do that since the iphone4. I think smart phones are a tremendous product. They’ve allowed me to get rid of loads of annoying gadgets, their irritating wires and non compatible chargers. I find gadgets an irritation and the creation of the smart phone was been tremendous for me as it’s allowed me to get rid of all gadgets

As someone who is not really a modern consumer in that I don’t ever go shopping for the sake of shopping and I don’t replace something because there is a better version but rather because the existing product no longer works, I am steadily growing to resent the fact that I am pushed more and more to replace phones that are absolutely fine.

I have an iPhone6 now and it’s battery lasts more than long enough for me, it does everything that I need. I’ve pretty much reached the end of the time when a new iPhone genuinely offered a new feature that was needed or was genuinely beneficial. And talking watches were cool in the 60s/70s on TV but I’m not seeing the point of them 50 years later.

I just hope that I am allowed to keep using this existing phone for another few years.

Until the battery gives up it will still function as a phone.

The battery is a non issue as you can replace them. I replaced the battery on the 4 a couple of times. Maybe you can’t on 6 or higher?

The problem that I’ve found is from the iOS updates. You can stall them as long as possible but ultimately you always end up having to update and eventually apps stop working on older versions and you can’t install the latest iOS.

And even when it does so, you can replace it for £79 or less: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/iphone/repair/serv...

Yes I'm pretty sure the battery is replaceable on all models.
I'm sure you will get another couple of years software updates on the 6, they have only just stopped supporting the 5.

It’s just that ticking clock which I find irritating.
