I popped into Caffeine and Machine today at the Houndshill in Ettington, near Stratford on Avon. It’s not fully open yet. I think they are planning to open on the 27 October.

It’s looking good - it’s a Petrol head themed bar, restaurant and hotel. I am quite impressed. The guys who are setting this up have a good thing going, I think.

I popped in there the other week and spoke to Phil the owner and Tom Ford who is playing a heavy part in it. Got a guided tour around the place, in between workmen etc. Their plans not only for the pub, but also the local community are very impressive. I really, really hope they make a success of it - I for one will be spending a fair bit of time there!

I'd seen a few things about it on social media, but as someone who doesn't drink coffee I ignored it. I'm sure I'll be checking it out, as I'm always looking for places between Coventry and Chipping Norton to meet my Dad.

That's unfortunate.

Met him on a car launch once (in his 5th Gear days), and the man acted like an egotistical knob with an entitlement complex.

Rather puts you off anything he's involved in...which is a shame, as I really like the idea of the place and it's comparatively-speaking on my doorstep.

I thought the other lad was called Adam or Dan or something (I am rubbish with names). I don't know anything about Tom Ford being involved.

However I know a fair few local petrol heads have got involved in donating memorabilia and Wayne Allman (Intergalactic Customs) apparently made the bar, so it wouldn't surprise me if other people were also involved in the background.

Maybe that was the setting you met him in? I have to say, he seemed a really down to earth bloke - was more than happy to while away the time chatting about loads of stuff other than cars. Maybe because it was more relaxed (i.e. just me, a mate and him)? He disappeared off to make a coffee with a motoring journo from the Telegraph who was there and Phil gave us the guided tour etc.

Worth remembering the 'I met Jason Plato' thread? :P

I'm going down Saturday I think. I've heard there are potentially over a thousand cars due to turn up over the two days! Got to hope they've got the extra parking sorted. Great idea in the long run though and I hope it's a success. That area has some great driving roads, and somewhere to meet and have a bacon butty/coffee and a chat makes for a nice rendezvous.

Yeah, you may be right.

This was the height (!?!) of 5th Gear about 10 years or so ago, so possibly he was getting surrounded by media sycophants and it was going to his head. Or maybe as he was TV and every other journo there was print he expected special treatment...

Anyway, doesn't matter that much...I'll be heading down tomorrow as it's sort-of on the doorstep and it sounds like a business worth supporting.

Had a great morning with some truly awesome machines. Not sure my Dads Austin 7 or my 4C fitted in with the Supercar Morning but the beauty of C&M is it doesn’t matter!

It has to be a good Midland PH meet venue?

Do they do breakfasts? Could be good for a run out.

A minor mishap prevented me from attending on the opening weekend. I shall however be making my way up there when I get a chance. Looks like a very promising venue.

Popped in today to break the journey from Wales to Reading. Superb set up, and very cool decor. The guys running it were great, and really chipper and friendly even though it was super busy and packed out. Food was a little cold, but good quality.
Loads of nice metal there. 570s. GT3RS, classic and latest 'stangs. Porsche Macan club rolled up in their club jackets which immediately made my mind up to by. 350z rather than a Boxster S 😁

I'd echo the above post - went today for lunch.

Nachos are BIG! Yorkshire pudding burger wasn't too bad. There seemed to be a lot more cars there than there were people oddly.

They do indeed. I had a bacon roll last time I was there.

A perfect winter Sunday meet up I reckon?
