So I finally ticked off buying my dream porsche, a well specced 996 albeit a non GT2
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Still very much in love with it, but it`s occasionally a bit too much for the road, with its race sump and generally being a little older sometimes I wanted something a bit more reserved and accessible without being at the limit. I also really missed some modern bits, keyless entry, a bit more of an all rounder.

So I bought an e92 m3 Comp which had the advantage of back seats, being higher, more luxuries etc. I seriously love this car https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I missed my z4m though, being able to drop the roof in a sunny Aussie day is definitely one of the reasons I came here! I wanted something as nimble as the 911 but with some of the thrills of the z4, a bit of rawness, convertible, an occasion but not a full on sensory overload like the 911. So I took a 718 cayman out and it is a serious bit of kit, a really twisty pass and it ate up every apex with some wooshes and pops, but the 4 pot just didn`t feel exciting despite the pace when you caught the sweet spot in the rev range. Couldn`t fall in love. My only other real go in a cayman would have been a circa 06 model which didn`t excite either so figured maybe anything in budget and with a porsche badge wouldn`t fit the bill.. Was going to have a look at an SLK55, which is a brute of a car but then the last one I drove I didn`t fall for either.

I`d given up chasing a convertible, but then took out a slightly older boxster of the straight six variety and was instantly sold.

so the new addition to the garage for now is this 2014 Boxster S. Most of the factory options, belonging to a doctor who spent top dollar speccing it up, bose speakers, parking sensors, adaptive cruise, sports zorst and chrono pack. I got lucky as it only went in 3 days before I saw it, 10k cheaper than the only other

the 3.4 sings like the 4 banger can only dream of. Handling is sublime, brakes are punchy and I`m loving the build quality. It`s just such a well rounded beast. The pdk, as much as i prefer big paddles like the m3 has is just such a joy (although I`m not sold on the up/down on either side and still knock the left expecting to downshift only to find I`ve hit up or vice versa). Only regret is that it isn`t a spyder which came with a premium of $60k or so..

Enjoyed the last boxster I took out, but being a hire car only had 100kms to enjoy it over - so have a long, longer jaunt planned next weekend!

LOVE the Boxster....the biggest critics of them ( “get a proper Porsche”, “haird essers car” etc) are people who’ve never driven them - basing their opinions on what Clarkson et al say.

Had a 3.2 S which was a brilliant car, my daily driver for a couple of years. Traded up to a 996 C4S but I just didn’t get on with it, in fact Swmbo drove it more than I did. Ended up trading it for an ex demo 2.7 Boxster which at first seemed a bit slow. However in reality it was more than fast enough and we had loads of fun in it.

Guess I’m just a Boxster kind of guy...

Me too, and Cayman the same. It takes turning into ONE roundabout very slightly faster than is neccesary to 'get' them. Wonderful steering and balance.

Funnily enough, that was the first thing that came up today - from a Civic Type R (2007) and Hyundai driver (which is funny because I also have a 911.)

To put it in perspective speed wise, the 981 boxster S will lap the ring quicker than an e92 m3 and as quick as an 07 R8 (and almost as quick as a 996 GT3, Vantage etc) and even in the real world is just as quick to 60 etc.

At any rate, I collected her yesterday, seriously happy - will take her to stretch her legs this weekend. The sports exhaust is nice and throaty. It always takes me a while to decide if to go the mod route with a car undecided with this one but for now am enjoying it:

Snao. Had a lovely 996 C2. It bored me unless driven at license loosing speeds. Sold and got a 986 Boxster S.

Have a e92 M3 and thinking of selling that, the boxster and getting either an M4 or a 981S.

I've had two 911 Turbos and before that I had the original Boxster when it first came out.

The 911 Turbo is one of the best cars I have ever owned but, if I am honest, I had more fun in the Boxster.

Anyone who knocks them simply hasn't owned one.

OP - That does look stunning!
