Hi guys,

Had some fantastic advice on previous topics so thought I'd ask again for a little bit of a point in the right direction.

I am currently looking for ways to update our current website as it just isn't good enough in my opinion. It is, however, a bit time sensitive (completion required within 2 or 3 weeks). We are a start-up company so we have to watch the budget with an eagle eye, unfortunately.

I have no idea on how website developing works; therefore, I am apprehensive and fear getting ripped off. Some advice would be great.

I require no special effects, just something modern, slick, professional and minimalist. All photos, videos, texts, fonts and colours will be provided.

Something like this would be perfect: https://team.kg/

Anybody got any suggestions? Anybody know any students that fancy a project?

Thanks in advance!

OJ

Price, Speed, Quality - pick two.

Three weeks is quite a short turnaround if you're expecting someone (one person?) to conceive a site/navigation structure, design screens, build and test (never overlook the QA testing aspect!).

User Experience, Interface Design, and Development are rather distinct specialisms these days - I'd be wary of one person who claimed to be able to do all three well.
Have you factored in copywriting? Writing for the web is a bit of an art in itself.

A rushed, low budget site will likely do more harm than good and do beware of the one-man-bands who will charge 'by the page'

Assuming you're after a simple brochureware site with no other integrations, you'll likely be be looking at a WordPress-based site with a decent theme that'll give you various layout options to replicate the type of site in your example.

I used this one for my site: https://undsgn.com/uncode/
Take a look here for some free alternatives: https://athemes.com/collections/free-wordpress-the...

You'll still be looking in the 000s rather than 00s for a decent, thorough professional job though.

Your very first step is to identify exactly who your audience(s) are, what they will want to see on your site (also, how will they come to find the site).
Then think about what you want them to do whilst on the site.
Look at your competitors - do they feature content or functionality that you don't?

Are you able to speak to your audience?
Ask them what they'd change/improve on your site; as few as 10 or so people is usually enough to draw attention to any major issues. Remember, the site is for them; the fact that you don't like it is secondary!

Look at your site analytics to get a more objective view of why the site may not be performing.
What content is popular/unpopular, how are visitors navigating, do they return, how long are they staying, where are they leaving?

All of this info will help to shape the direction and composition of a site. Prospective design agencies should be asking these questions (and more).

Are you selling through your website?

I can't seem to check the link you posted. I would recommend you look at a framework and buy a theme for it. You should be able to code the rest yourself, basically fill in the boxes like it was a CMS or use the WYSIWIG editors a lot of them provide.

Nowadays website development can be done on a shoestring unless you want something really fancy that requires a lot of custom code.

If you only require a simple brochure site, then the above is what will take the majority of the time. Writing good copy and taking quality images and videos and processing them for web and mobile is not a 5 min job. If you have completed all that work already and have all the assets ready to go then completion within 3 weeks is easily achievable.

2 weeks is too short for anything decent. I would just focus on getting a really good landing page setup rather than a whole site.

Generally, when clients ask us for a website quickly, we find it isn't us that holds the process up.

Content if a copywriter isn't used or marketing images, because the client wants to pick them themselves. Thats what we are always waiting for.

Hi guys!

I forgot to mention that we have been running 2.5 years now! So, we have an okay little client base, we just need a REVAMP! A freshen up is required!

Firstly, many many thanks for the response and tips! It's massively appreciated.

All the images, text, colours, videos and fonts are already in use, it just needs to be dropped into a more modern template.

Above is a link of a website I really like. My company would require MUCH less information.

Regards!

I knew you'd say that (used to work in the industry).

Lol that’s not finished and the first decent site we’ve had in 2 years. Anyone can put that Wordpress together for you just ask locally and help the dev by getting your content ready and clearly labelled.

And what would you say would be a fair price?

I’ll find out if it’s scratch built or based on a theme then see the hours logged tomorrow and advise.

Edit - took 10 days inc design, if design didnt change much would be 6 days BUT show it to a few people and use elements of it with my blessing ;o)

As has been said, you aren't after anything special realistically a wordpress theme and someone competent could put it together quickly. Generally if content was ready and the theme didn't need customising too much a freelancer would charge anything from £300-800 depending how much they wanted the job and country of origin!

I do a fair bit of work for a Scottish company, they basically re-sell on my work but they get the work in so I'm happy charging £300 for the basic websites as it tops up my play fund!

Have a look on people per hour or ask around for freelancers, plenty about
