Hi all

The OH’s Mini Cooper SD 5 door is 12 months old and on 14k miles and already needs new rear brake pads. The front pads are fine, as are the tyres which are the original set. It’s a motorway car so there should be very little wear.

Our local mini dealer has advised rear pads should only last c.10k miles on the new minis.

This sounds like a load of rubbish to me, and believe perhaps the car is faulty. Has anyone else had to replace their mini brakes this soon? Or have they lasted much much longer?

Thanks

Vee

Do you use cruise control a lot ?
When I do a lot of motorway miles I find the brakes wear faster on the rear due to CC applying them from cold.

So does it actually *need* pads, or are you being told it needs pads?

Not much cc at all as far as I’m aware but will ask her. Thanks!

As for pad wear, they are nearly on the metal!

Quite a lot on the www about this. Seems being pessimistic about what life is left is common but calliper binding is also mentioned quite a bit.
