John (Simpo Two) got it spot on.
Somebody must have explained it well...!

Presumably if the funds are in a GIA, rebalancing would be a chargeable event, so if your portfolio was large enough you could get a tax surprise as the price of keeping the portfolio steady?

Yes it would, but there is an old saying; Don't let the tax tail wag the investment dog!

Problem is you won't be buying at today's prices and if I understand the markets correctly - the day after a fall it all goes back up again. The next fall should theoretically be Friday. Ask me how i Know biggrin

Surely PHR and PHE will execute today? Cash was already sitting with IM.

Oh, go on then! Hope this little gamble plays off so I can use it as justification to the wife to buy a BMW M2 at some point next year!

Well I've had a response and looks like the purchase will be tomorrow so fingers crossed. Incidentally the Switch/Withdrawal section of the site - it would be useful if it had a timestamp as well as date.

With PH Recovery it is all linked to the timeframe for a return to something close to normality. That looks to be longer than it initially was.

So whilst we will be aiming for the M2 for you, I've got a lovely bike your wife can have if it gets worse! biggrin

Julian

Didn't we have a wager on which would do better over a calendar year? An investment with Intelligent Money (sponsors of British GT Racing) or an investment with Stupid Money (We Make Small Fortunes From Large Ones) ?

That's the calendar year ended.

Time for a recce.

wink

We did indeed! Obviously property prices are on the rise and CV19 has had a huge negative impact on markets, but I will put forward PH Equity for the wager.

My turn to choose the charity (Scope, if you don't mind).

confused

I thought the wager was Ma Groat's IM investment performance versus the investment performance of a Stupid Money property of the same value as her investment at the time she made it?

(And I didn't know the property's capital gain was also to be involved when calculating the property's performance).

To be honest mate, I can't quite remember what the wager actually was. It has been a rather busy year! biggrin

The property capital gain can only be included upon sale!

Given everything that has happened (and is continuing to happen) over the last year I think you will win this hands down unless Ma Groat was in PH Equity!

What I thought we had done is agree to a wager that we performed far better than her previous provider (which we certainly have), but I'll send £1,000 to Scope without any quibble as it is an excellent cause.

I assume that's a wager based on one of Groats yields which we know is probably 15% (more if leveraged). Haven't seen you around for a while Groat smile
