My mother died a few weeks ago, she was a dementia sufferer and we tried for a very long time to care for her ourselves but 12 months ago we made the decision to put her in a home where she could have the care she needed. This was a private home and we had to pay top-up fees as her pension and benefits didn't cover the full cost. She got her care and we got our freedom yet despite it being best for all concerned I still felt bad.
Her funeral is in two weeks and I am yet to collect her belongings but I was one who has always said you should care for your own and not leave it to the state but I have since learned that there is only so much family can do especially with something like dementia to deal with.

fk me it's dusty in here.
