Reason I'm asking this is because I recently saw a guy getting picked up after work by his wife/girlfriend and she got out so he could drive. Now this just seemed bizarre to me and got me thinking are there a lot of blokes out there who just have to drive? I, for one, enjoy being a passenger on the weekend as I do more than enough miles commuting during the week.

Are some men really that bothered about being driven around by a woman? Maybe your partner dislikes driving and would prefer you to do the driving? (This is sometimes the case if we visit large unfamiliar cities)

You never know, maybe she clocks up all the miles during the week and he offered to drive after needing to be picked up.

Perhaps they only have one car, which is hers, so he doesn't get much chance to drive, therefore he drives at the weekend.

During my relationship with my wife I've been in both these scenarios.

My wife does two or three times the mileage I do every week, therefore I generally drive at the weekends. That and my car is more comfortable/spacious and has a bigger boot.

To add - no I'm not bothered about being driven around by woman.

It's a funny one, I end up driving everywhere with the girlfriend, mostly in her cars (as mine are usually in various states of repair!) and it's not through any control freakery or anything. Just ends up a habit, I enjoy driving & I'm typically a lot more confident/relaxed driving anywhere.

My girlfriend is a great driver though! She bought an MX5 due to me harping on about my old one and she can fairly chap on in it, typically smoothly and confidently too. I think we just both prefer me driving hehe I let her take my tuned 335i home with me following in another car in the pissing rain & she was happy to do so.

I think mostly she just likes being a passenger so she can nap or sit on facebook!

Driving isn't always fun or a pleasure is it? Perhaps she doesn't like driving that much, or him driving would allow her to get stuff done on her phone?

The last woman I was involved with seemed to like me driving her around in her car. When her car was a PH staple who was I to decline. She drove Monday to Friday with her job, so perhaps she was keen to let someone else drive.

There could've been multiple reasons for swapping the driving. One could be reducing wear and tear on their driving licences.

I find I'm not the best passenger in cars and pillion on a bike is s definite NO. I reckon it's due to the fact that I have always been the driver/rider since I was 16. My ex wife never learnt to drive so I am used to 'being in control' as it were. It doesn't matter whether it's a guy or a girl driving, I'd prefer to drive if possible. That and the fact I still actually enjoy driving and especially riding the bike.

My partner is currently learning so we tend to take her car all badged up when we go for little jaunts to local towns. If she wanted to drive once she's passed then that'd be ok with me! Means I can play DJ in the passenger seat!

My OH and an oddly unequal relationship in this regard, and I should emphasise that this is purely on her part.

If we drive any distance in her car, we share the driving 50/50.

If we drive any distance in either of my cars, I drive.

hehe

You have made a rather sweeping statement from observing one man take over driving from a woman, don't you think?

Maybe she had driven for a fair distance to get him, maybe she didn't fancy driving, maybe its for some other reason - like you preferring to be driven around on the weekend t because you are lazy, because you drink to much on weekends to be able drive or because she doesn't like your aggressive driving so would prefer to drive herself, get the picture?

...and then he dropped her off somewhere 5 minutes later, so to make it easier they just changed at that point.

Observing the woman change seats for the man only compounded my suspicions as (and before you ask I have no documented evidence of this) IMO, if you look out for families driving about and getting in and out of cars at carparks etc, majority of the time the man will be behind the wheel.

Completely agree with you there could be a whole host of reasons why they swapped in that particular situation, one of which could be the bloke is a sexist.

Do you make your OH drive on the weekend because you are sexist?

My OH does most of the driving on weekends, we both cover fairly even miles in the week.

Main reasons she drives: she has the newer car, she doesn't drink, she is not fussed either way.

Reason she doesn't: heavy rain on motorway, it's late at night.

Big drive Friday after work I'm not sure who'll take the wheel but it'll be in her car.

Exactly the case for my fiancee and me. She's doesn't particularly like driving, I do. Makes sense.

On the rare occasion she picks me up, we'd probably swap so I do the driving. Unless I've had a drink of course.

I dont know whats worst . . . .

The OP taking time out of his day \ life to worry about such things ?
The OP taking time out of his day \ life to even create a thread about it on an Internet forum ?
People actually taking time out of their days \ life to respond ?
Me for taking time out of my day \ life to actually read it ?
Oh no wait . . . . . . . ha ha

Still a pointless all the same .

I enjoy driving, but I don't have to drive. If we are going long distance then I tend to drive as I have more experience at it. But it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I am happy if she drives as then I can have a drink biggrin

I always drive.

Mainly because my wife finds it stressful and gets really tired. I enjoy it so I drive.

I've done exactly this on a few occasions. It's nothing to do with sexism, just my girlfriend happens to be an appallingly crap driver who also dislikes driving so when we are both in a car I drive. That way is less stressful and more enjoyable for both of us. The only occasional exception to this is on a long motorway slog through France so I can relax for an hour or two.
