What I don't understand about shorting is:

Person A lends Person B some shares.
Person B sells them at Price X.
Person B buys back later at Price Y (Y<X).
Person A gets a fee. Person B has made the difference between X and Y.
So everyone is happy right?

Except now person A holds shares at a lower price than they were before due to person B's activities with no guarantee they will recover.
A is not happy. He holds the shares and is still exposed to the ups and downs. It went down so he lost.

By way of a tiny compensation, he has signed up to the stock lending programme and the platform pays him a % of their stock lending fee (50% on IBKR I think). So over a day he was paid 1.15% x 50% x 1/365 = 0.0016%
Ah I see. So Person A makes money from the platform, also from Person B and is essentially hoping that Person B loses.

Where do I sign up to loan my shares out ??!!

Along with Next, Asos and Zalando stopping/pausing selling Boohoo products on their websites.
I read that makes up about 4% of the revenue though, so not an issue. If they integrate their acquisitions (oasis and Warehouse online) well they should come good, the controversy will trundle on and eventually disappear IMHO esp now they have a new QC person.

(I don't hold any)

Wetherspoons shot up in the last 15 minutes of trading today, up to 989 from the 950s.

Anyone in on them? I'm tempted, I think they will be ok.

Sounds promising, is this a delivery system of existing drugs/anti-bodies, or their new proprietary drugs?

do you have a feel / knowledge of how far down the line they are to regulatory approval? I imagine the former is much quicker

CARNIVAL

CCL were up 4.45% but after hours released the mother of all RNS for their half year results. Huge loss (of course, it's what you'd expect and I hope is already priced in the sp as it should be no surprise but who knows).

However importantly they say they have cash to last them for a year (by cash I mean debt facilities I assume). There seem an awful lot of people selling their CCL shares after market though so I'd not be too surprised if it drops Monday.

With the news they are starting operating from Germany in August I'm hopefully that we are just about at the bottom for CCL.

I bought some at about 1017 I think. It's probably the only shares that I can actually have some input into.

Also bought into Marstons.......oops.......

My biggest issue with restaurants and the like is they are most likely to be the ones first to be told to shut down again and they would plummet if it were to happen again.

Certainly in keeping with the thread I suppose.

Restaurants also even when they open will not be able to have the same numbers of covers, they will need to increase their prices to maintain any profitability.

No RNS for SKIN today, any news elsewhere? (Apart from Twitter):

Why would there be an RNS today?

Wasn’t their CEO tweeting yesterday something cryptic (was mentioned a few pages back, unless I have got the wrong company).

Yeh it's just a tease game with some regulars plus obviously self promotion.

Results due on the 15th I think.

I have £700 of SKIN. I am not sure I trust a CEO who unprofessionally drops hints/teases etc. he even replies on BB sometimes etc. Doing that sort of thing can make your company fall foul of SE rules etc which can only bring trouble. I feel as if he is ramping the price.

I think £700 is enough for me, does anyone hold more, if so what rationale? I could be convinced to buy more !

I think about a month ago I posted my views ... spoke to some who has some knowledge in the sector.. his view is what they are doing definitely has growth opportunities...

They seem to have multiple applications in what they do and the whole AI thing is always going to get more and more relevant.

If it does turn out that the CEO just likes to tickle balls then I think it would come out sooner or later...

Initially they were a get rich quick share but the more I looked into them the more I feel it’s a medium hold .

I'm the exact opposite to you.
I like that a CEO is taking time to respond to people's questions that 99.9% of other companies would just never reply to.

Absolutely nothing he says on social media gives anything away and whilst I do agree that it could be seen as ramping, it is so general that he is giving nothing away.

Any different to apple releasing a teaser of their new iPhone?

fizz47/rich12 - Thanks for your views.

As a £700 punt I'll keep it. May add £300 on Monday.
