Good results for ZIM

The ZIM results are stronger than expected, with EBIT 25% above BBG consensus
In addition, the group’s guidance for 2023 (while subject to uncertainty) is reassuring, and the group has announced a $6.4 final dividend. We expect the share price to react quite strongly positively, given negative market sentiment.

JPM are now Overweight; Price Target: $30.40

just a 32% Q4 dividend, which takes div yield to 44% for the year smile

Still time to get in. Buy today (upto 24th March) expected opening "only" up 10% to $21 in pre-market. And get $6.40 back on April 3rd.

ooh needed some good news. the recent drop (outside of the svb stuff( made me think the results might be bad.
If they can make money at this level of freight rate then thats good news.
They are also pretty heavy into LNG ships which should massively help in the future.

Big day for Natural Gas today. Went down in morning then blasted higher. It is up 7% now so must have been down say around 3% so that makes a 10% move up from the lows.

Dont know anything about DEC .... but ... if they are an energy stock then when there is a deflationary theme energy stocks go down. If economy is supposed to be entering a period where it will struggle, then less energy will be used.

Nat Gas going up right now is not following the norm. It is only doing this as it has already been beaten down.

EQT actually going up today - +25% currently.

ETA The banking crisis has pretty much reversed the 2023 year-to-date gains in my P/F - boo!

LTH of EQT and subsequently well down. And my P/F down again but your comment about "gains" ?

I still hold SNG, maybe I'm the only one? So far under now it's a joke. An expensive joke. Is there any life in this one, I've been hanging on waiting for news but even news now that it cures every ill known to man won't help it recover I fear.

NatWest, Lloyds, Barclays, Investec etc - these were doing quite well until a week ago frown

BP & Shell were doing quite well too.

Thank goodness for the Rolls Royce gains this year.

I'm also well down on EQT - it's very much become a LTH rather than a trading share for me. Need a 100% day just to break even. Hopefully sentiment improves.

I seem to have got lucky with SNG and managed to trade out of it at the right time.

Something that is interesting (to me anyway) is the position that shorts are in regarding dividends - referring to ZIM specifically:

Dividend Payments. Short sellers aren't entitled to dividend payments from the shares they've borrowed. In fact, the value of any dividends paid will be deducted from short-seller's account on the pay date and delivered to the stock's owner. Some short sellers choose to close their short positions before the stock's ex-dividend date to avoid having to pay. (As a reminder, the ex-dividend date is the first day a stock's price no longer includes the value of a declared dividend. That's because the value of the next dividend payment is owed to the stock's owner.)

I havnt looked for a while are there many shorts on zim? I read their results saw they were on an average of $2000 ish freight rate. The average for for 1st Jan to now is a good chunk below that but I was surprised to get such a big div after the previous 2.95 div.

Not sure how well the information on Stocktwits can be trusted, but https://stocktwits.com/Guptastocks/message/5172581...

According to Stocktwits the ex. dividend date shifts as the dividend > 25% of opening price -

Stocktwits said:
... because the dividend payout was greater than 25% of the opening price today, special rules apply that ex dividend date is a day after payout date, so April 4th, if you sell before ex dividend date they'll take back your dividend payout on April 3rd.
Two oddities learned today which I was unaware of.
