This is correct. Ernie is a random number generator, it may generate bond number 999ZZ999999, which won't be sold for some time yet. That bond if drawn isn't owned by anyone so it would be discarded and they would move on to the next one, if that is owned by some one has it been sold?, if not eligible for the current prize.
Yeah, I assume the bond itself has various attributes:Number: 1-9999999999 or whatever format is used
Year purchased: 1960-continuation
Location: ABC
OwnersName: XYZ
Eligible: True/False
All the bonds will be in a list (or perhaps they're separated until eligible is true).
Ernie generates a suitable bond number and the list is checked for number (if it's only checking true numbers) and eligibility (if it's an all bonds list); either the winning bond number is found and allocated the prize or it returns void/false.

You're joking, right? Many lottery winners go public. True, I personally wouldn't but, many still do.
Yes, but how many of them also have £50k max PB holdings? Not many I suspect, the demographic of the majority that do go public are not your powerfully built PH Director types. If I win the £1m prize I'll happily announce it on here for you all.

I had given up on bonds, but thought I would put something away tonight as should start saving more and spread things about a bit.
No joy, been trying to log in for over an hour and can’t receive an opt code, no text turns up. Tried twice, still nothing through. I’m starting to remember what a s
t show their platform is and why I gave up previously.

Right guys, I was sure premium bonds is rigged but after a recent incident, I am now convinced its rigged.
I had the full amount in and for 2023 my earnings have been crap. Most months nothing! Completely different to 2022. So I pulled the money out early April with intention to stick it back in again for the June draw (i lose a month). I stuck it back in with 2 days left before the deadline but, it failed to register and I got some error. I called them frantically trying to get this money in but my account became BLOCKED as it thinks I have the full amount in, even though I don't. CS told me wait 24 hours and it will definitely refresh so that i could then upload the funds to get into the June draw. 6 days passed and my account FINALLY became unblocked and i spoke to CS to get my payment backdated as is was their system at fault, CS told me they cannot do it but the claims team could. So i made a complaint.
Fast forward till NOW, yes NOW... almost 2 months after complaining! I receive a letter.
They said "Your numbers came in for the June draw, so we will honour it".
Hold up, my numbers came in, even though I wasn't in the June draw? How?
I've won nearly £600.
So... If i've understood this correctly....All numbers taken or not are in the draw, and if a set of numbers are drawn without it being associated to someone then they put a fake name and location! I have absolutely no doubt about it. I mean, who's gone public after winningt the big prizes? ie... real people? None.
Im not complaining, this is the most i've ever "won" (or is it compensation??). Bet im back to £0 or £25 next month lol.

The error occured when the Treasury-backed bank paid an interest rate increase two months to savers with guaranteeed growth and income bonds. The savers will not have to pay the money back.

Anyone else won someone else's prize?
I got a letter from them this morning saying a £25 prize was won by someone not eligible so it's now mine!
I saw someone on here say the same quite recently.I got a letter from them this morning saying a £25 prize was won by someone not eligible so it's now mine!
I do wonder how ineligible bonds get in the draw in the first place.
My suggestion was that it could be an old paper bond, where the holder has died but NS&I haven't been made aware

Question answered, and another one raised.
This morning I received a letter in the post:
Dear Mr Doofus
NS&I Premium Bonds
I am pleased to tell you that Bond number 123AB456789 has qualified for a £25 prize.
I have paid the prize direct to the nominated bank account.
The prize has been reallocated to you because the original winner was not eligible to receive it.
bla bla bla.

Thinking of getting some after a good while dithering. Not the max, but not far off. 4% from August seems decent vs 4.05% in an easy access ISA and around 4.25/4.30% in regular savings accounts.
Thoughts? Never had any before. Like the thought of it being tax free, (remote) chances of higher prizes, etc.

Can be several reasons, the draw for June will have taken place, probably in the last week of May. If someone sold a winning bond in May after the draw had taken place, it would no longer be eligible for that draw, so the win is taken back and reallocated to someone else. I do wonder how ineligible bonds get in the draw in the first place.
Also they may have been notified that the winner of a ticket for that month had been deceased for more than a year.

You are unlikely get winnings averaging the headline rate especially with less than max holding.Thoughts? Never had any before. Like the thought of it being tax free, (remote) chances of higher prizes, etc.
I’m running a bit more than 1% below the headline on max over 2 years.
Some people win more some less but you need a bit of luck to match what you could get in an ISA, on average - we are here for a shot at a big one!

Yeah, I understand that the rate is a coarse average. The funds in question are earning diddly squat at the moment, so anything is going to be a big plus.I’m running a bit more than 1% below the headline on max over 2 years.
