That'll be 'shade 10' sunglasses then.

I think they're 'auto darkening' shades. biggrin

I'd love to show them my automatic welding helmet, but they'd probably do something silly with it, like swap the lens out because it isn't dark....

Looking great!

Building site looks very neat and tidy too - cant stand the way UK building sites look, with their tall wire fencing, panelled fencing, signage, high viz etc etc.

Not forgeting all the smashed up, rusty transit vans and skips everywhere!

They had a couple of theft problems, someone stole the motor off the cement mixer on two occasions, but generally they keep a fairly tight ship.

We had some problems today, when the roofer rolled up and decided he was going to build something different to what I'd specced out on several drawings. This has been an ongoing 'niggle', when the guys make decisions that they should not.

I go offshore again tomorrow for four weeks so I now have to rely on photos and info from the wife.

Building stairs, Filipino style:

Plenty of steel first:

Then wooden formers:

Then manhandle several tons of concrete in:

Using modern techniques:

And voila, a set of solid stairs:

The House looks great, My Inlaws retired to the Philippines a few years ago and the when they had there house built it looked a lot like that ( I remember the Protective FlipFlops)

They ended up turning it into a bit of a resort with a couple of Pools and over night cottages - although in reality it is an excuse for my father in law to get together with his other Expat mates and drink San Miguel.

We are going to be out for pretty much all of December which I am looking forward to - he took a bit of a video of the resort (it is just outside Davao on Mindanao) http://www.youtube.com/embed/qq4ZPUVmEZ0?rel=0&quo... frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Sounds cool. You really can get a lot of bang for your buck in the PI. I can't watch the video though, as our internet connection here on the ship is so pathetically slow I'd be here for hours getting it to download.

I'd rather have built in a cheaper locale, as where we are is one of the most expensive areas in the PI. We could have had more land, more house, more garage, a pool etc, for the same price, if we'd moved just 25 miles away, outside the city area.

At least you're close to Angeles so can go for nights out easily if the wife ever has a headache or something...

I know what this is going to sound like, but you do get kind of bored of having half-naked sweet young things leaning all over you, talking rubbish to you, so I rarely go out alone. I went down the bar strip once last month, went to three bars, then went home.

Anyway, back to the house. smile

Roof to the garage is now on:

Roof garden work is coming along:

The house roof frame is progressing slowly, due to bad weather:

Concrete rendering inside is getting there now:

Very interesting way of building.

What is the Bog door and door frame made of though, I have visions of someone sat on the throne and termites eating the door away.

It is PVC, door and frame. They plan to use mahogany for the other two garage doors, but steel frames. Wierd.

They've started the garage door frames, out of angle iron. Sounded a bit strange, but like they said, wood will shrink and expand with the weather, from baking hot summer to piss wet monsoon season. They'll be fully concreted in and the place will be like fort Knox.

Definitely going with the gloss white in the finished garage, makes so much difference to brightness.

The wall around the roof top beer garden is a little more detailed and cool looking than I expected. I was thinking simple square concrete wall...

Just the right height for a bar stool and a mug of beer, and sit looking out at the sun goes down over Pinatubo, our local active volcano.......I could almost take up drinking again, it looks so inviting. biggrin

Roof is all but finished, despite many setbacks from useless management and slack lazy roofer bds.

Some 'picture framing' around the windows.
