I would go all one colour.

All one colour, and go dark so it doesn’t show the dirt! It is a garage after all!

Another vote for one colour and I prefer the darker ones

I rather like the darker running strips where tyres might go....even if mine are carpet tiles! & yes, I did get neater rubber edging for the door to drop to....

They only come in 300mm x 300mm. As you say all anthracite may be an option but it also might be too dark?
We used the lighter tile in our double garage, I thought at the time that the darker tile would be too dark in space. Plus they can make it more difficult to find the nut or bolt that you inevitably drop on the floor.

I bargained hard with CTD and got about 45% off their prices btw without needing to set a trade account up.

Edited to add that this was after they had just been mopped, so they are not usually that shiny.

In general use, very easy to clean too. A steam mop works wonders.

I am leaning towards one colour but no closer to making a decision!

I'd go all one colour of the lighter grey ones. Stripes looks a bit cheesy to me.

I don't think it's going to feel any 'darker' in there if you have the darker tiles as the overhead lights are so powerful.

It's a shame the tiles only come in 30m square as I'd be using 60cm if I could in that size of garage ...

I hope to maybe use 60cm in mine an it's only 3.2m across!

Grout a touch lighter than those dark tiles and you're good to go I reckon!

And an end to The Tomb jokes!

I went 026 as I felt the darker one would show more dirt; living in a rented flat with black granite worktops put me off dark surfaces for life!

The grey is easy to keep clean and doesn't show wet footprints for example, which I worried the dark grey would.

My garage floor is more like the 2nd shade, top left... needs cleaning more often when snow drops off the car, like around now, but otherwise it's mopped about twice a year. smile

My choice from those four would be bottom right - that bottom left one does look very dark - is that the same colour as in the other pic?

Although looking again, top left is also nice! Do you mind saying what you're paying per square metre?

I think i'm going for the medium grey. I had an interesting trip out at lunch to Tile Giant and Topps tiles.

Tile Giant wouldn't price match on the Dotti tiles, they were twice as expensive. They were also insistent that the most flexible of tile adhesives needed to be used, along with a latex additive otherwise they would all crack. (Mapei Keraquick + Mapei LatexPlus) which funnily came out at £850 worth of adhesive....

Topps stock a range of tiles called "Salt and Pepper" which are nigh on identical to the Dotti tiles, to the point of probably being the same tile and they are 5x as expensive as direct tile warehouse. They suggested a flexible BAL adhesive with fibres which was £40 a bag.

Personally I don't see why you want or need the tiles to flex, I understand fire station floors are tiled onto a solid cement bed so I can't see how a lack of flexibility is a problem.

The ones in my pic on the previous page are the bottom right. I think they are about £10.50+vat a square metre. Incredible value, as Muncher says above there are same / similar at many times the price. And Vitra isn't exactly a cheapo brand generally.

We went top left. I spent almost as much on adhesive than I did on the tiles, but as you can see they do get a heavy load on them, we used Mapei Granirapid adhesive, was quite easy to work with, but we only mixed it up as we needed it - it went off quite quickly otherwise.

Surely you just need an adhesive base with no gaps or air pockets ... as gaps 'could' allow the tile to flex and therefore break ...

That's what I thought. I get the impression lots of people say "you need this" but very few instances of someone using a particular product and it actually failing.

It's a real shame this thread has been hit by the Photobucket mess. You've built a very smart building although I admit I wasn't sure it was going to work when it was just a pile of breeze blocks.

Could you give an update of the garage build cost and remind me of the dimensions please?

Cheers

Thanks, one day I will sort all the photos out into a proper album.

It’s 11m x 5m (external) and on course for about £26k.

Had a busy few days/nights finishing off the electrics, got a bit of an issue with the door motor in that the setup is saying the door is effectively too heavy to move (0-2 is ok 3-9 is not - it is reading a 3 or a 5) the door feels very heavy to lift but the springs have the correct number of turns each (11) and it runs freely in the tracks so I am not sure what more I can do other than give the suppliers a call.

If you're using mozilla there's an addon called photobucket hotlink that lets you see everything. Internet unbroken!
